I've played BG1 loads of times, but here's the strange thing.

I came out of the N-mines and just completed the knife quest from Hentold by killing the zombie in the crypt to the east.

When I gave Imoen some stuff I found in the crypt I noticed she wasn't encumberd.
She had a weightallowence of 240. Everybody in my party has!

Now I admit I have used GK but only for some extra bolts and bullets.

Anybody got an idea? (Owh yeah, my Aura's cleansed by the knife apparently)

Never noticed that before,
maybe it's because of the aura cleansing.
Have you tried resting a couple of times?
Or even reloading.

Always make a backup before you use gatekeeper (i believe he doesn't do that for you, shadowkeeper (for BG2) does)

BTW have you tried to use spells / potions to get a hight strenght, to see if it can go up?

No, that's not it, started again a couple of times, stays the same....
No result, don't mind, but it feels like cheating.

SwordCoast Keeper, an improved version of gatekeeper, now does a back up like sk.
