Multi-Classing

Could someone tell me what I should put my stats to if I multi-class a half-elf into a fighter/mage, and/or just general multi-classing tips?

Since the game has not included the wizard class you most probably need to consider a fighter/sorcerer thus spending some points to your charisma score for the sorcerer class and some points to strenght and constitution for your fighting skills.

Might spoil
There are several items in the game that raise your ability scores permanently too so you might consider not maxing your primary stats at the begining and spent the points more evently.

Another question about multi-class. What is the best (without being over powered/cheesy) multi class?

Firstly the game has a cap for a single class to level 16 but allows a multi-class character to go up to level 32, so eventually all your characters will be multi-classed.

With that said i consider the best, or more correctly the more useful multi-class, the Paladin/Cleric. The game is full of undead so the most useful ability is turn undead. The paladin/cleric class stacks the turn undead level and makes it possibly to turn almost anything in the game. It can save your life and you time (turn based fights) to many times in the game.

Completely unrelated question, but why does the game seem soooo long? I got to the Main Halls the first day I played and I'm still in the same place. Is there any way to do things faster?

Well, the dungeons in the game are REALLY huge and the fights are turn based which takes a lot of time.
There is a speed utility for the game that makes the entire game work faster but i don't know if it works with the latest patch.

Check here if you are interested.

Glad i could help :) . Let us know if the speed utility works with patch v1.4 (if you installed it).

Um....I'm not sure if it actually has sped anything up. Everything seems normal. Ah well. I'll just slog through the entire thing and savour the scenery :D

Err ... the link i gave you was for the updated ulility for patch v1.3 and thus it was not containing any information as of how to use the program  . Hit '7' to speed the game down and '8' to speed it up. :D

Good news! It works like a charm with v 1.4! The game's never been better for me. Thanks a lot Demis!

BTW - I've found that a Ranger/Rogue multiclass is quite effective

Good news indeed. :) I know i've enjoyed the game better with this little program.

As for the ranger/rogue i don't remember using this multiclass mainly because i was dissapointed from the ranger class.

I think the ranger/rogue (or rogue/ranger) works well because both primarily use light armor and ranged weapons. The point blank feat with sneak attack is pretty rad as well. Plus there's favoured enemy, which makes those orcs easier to kill. I'm not sure if it's as good as the paladin/cleric, but I think it's a good way to use your rogue. Alone though, the ranger did kinda stink compared to the barbarian, paladin, and plain fighter.

Maybe a ranger/rogue is much better than a ranger, but in the game ranger don't even get dual wield or rapid shot, basically the key abilities for a ranger. But combined to a rogue it seems a lot better.

Also many people tried out (with success) the Paladin/Monk class. I gave this class a try on a solo run but never got too far to actually see if this peculiar combo works. :)

The ranger really does stink in PoR2. I hate to say it, because it's one of my favourite classes, but the ranger is outshone by the barbarian and paladin.

Just another question. How many people have gone through the game more than once?

Some have i guess, mainly because they wanted to solo the game, though many have restarted the game more than once because of the bugs and after the patches came out.

So far i'm loving this game. I know a lot of people complain about the turn based system, but I like it much better than the realtime combat in BG2. I ended up having to pause a lot in BG2 when the battles got hectic, in PoR the game gives you time to make your best move. Each battle feels like a chess match :-)

I'm currently running a 2 man party with a paladin/cleric and a rogue/fighter. The paladin/cleric is a very nice combo indeed. I started as a pally, so the first 2 levels were tough until he got "Turn Undead" after that, it's been a breeze.

I'm still in the Halls of Light dungeon, and my characters are level paladin7/cleric1 and rogue8/fighter1. I plan to add cleric levels until I hit the cap at 16 and then continue adding paladin levels after that.

I love the paladin, turn undead, divine grace (never fails a save) and smite evil. With cleric I get shield of faith, searing light and harm eventually.

I haven't tried soloing. I think you may need to take some rogue levels because of all the traps and locked doors, etc. But the rogue stats don't mesh well with a heavy armored holy warrior type, so that's why I added the rogue to my party.

Some people that soloed the game said that you don't need a rogue to do it, but i guess there will be times where you would wish you had a rogue with you. :)

As for clerics, in this game they can actually do more damage than the sorcerer since the sorcerer was stripped from many area-effect spells that can deal serious damage.
