Non-existent dialog preventing save

This may well have been discussed here, before, but if so, I can't find it.

My latest party just dealt with the Unseeing Eye Cult. Upon leaving the sewers, they encountered two brief events. First, some dwarves harassed a little girl; I drove 'em away. Second, Jan's cousin showed up to initiate his personal quest.

After both quests ended, I discovered that my party seemed to think they were still in dialog. They would only move a short distance before stopping, and the game won't save because they're still "in dialog mode."

Any effective solutions available? Please note that I have the latest bugfixes and am Win98. I've also installed Kelsey, Tashia, the items upgrade mod, Dungeon-Be-Gone, and the Baldurdash ToB patch. I've not seen the dwarves/girl incident, before, so it may be related to one of the NPC mods I've installed. Thanks.

I just experimented by removing the Kelsey mod. Sure enough, that removed the dwarf/child event, and prevented the "silent dialog looping" that prevented me from saving or my party from moving more than in small increments at a time. I was able to move to the top of the Temple district.

I then tried removing only the Tashia mod. Believe it or not, the dwarf/child event again never occurred.

When I reinstalled both, the dwarf/child event returned.

I finally managed to do a separate save after the silent dialog problem occurred. When I exited and uninstalled either Tashia or Kelsey then reloaded, the bug was gone. When I had both installed, the bug returned.

You keep editing things, but here's where I'll try to get a word in edgewise. :)

- The "bandit" event you are describing is a component of the Tashia mod.

- I have never heard of this being a conflict before, and many people take the two NPCs together.

- If you had, say, Kelsey patches or Kelsey-TOB installed after Tashia, then yes, Kelsey would have to be uninstalled and reinstalled when you pulled Tashia out of the stack.

I'm constantly coming back on to add new info. ;) The latest is that whenever I reinstall Tashia, several Kelsey files are uninstalled in the process. That may be normal; I don't know.

The usual order in which I install the mods are:

Kelsey SoA
Kelsey ToB
Tashia

If I install Tashia before the Kelsey mods, for some reason her portait is missing. Strange? You bet. I'm not sure what to make of all this. But thanks, in any case, for replying.

I've now been able to get the dwarf/child event to run whenever Tashia was installed, and Kelsey wasn't. The problem still occurs: despite what appears to be a "clean" install (no notification during the process that any files won't install), once the event concludes, my party is still left with some dialog that won't fire, and interferes with subsequent actions.

I wonder if what's happening is that you have two timed events trying to fire at once, Tashia's "winning" but the game's still trying to muscle its way in there anyway. (I'm removing Kelsey from the blame chain since it's happening even with him out.) You might take a peek inside the Tashia code and stop that encounter from happening altogether if it's hosing the game.

As for Kelsey files being removed, if you send me Setup-Tashia.debug I can look for where that might be happening. Shouldn't, in any event.

Afraid I wouldn't know what to look for, or how to look. My programming expertise was limited to a C-like gaming script used on a MMORPG where I worked for four years. By profession, obsession and hobby, I'm a writer--as are you.

I am under no illusions that this is happening regularly, or there would be an outcry from users. Clearly, there's something in my setup somewhere that's causing the problem, and it's damned annoying. I'll shoot you the debug file, for what that's worth. What address shall I use?

Tashia uses a very old version of WeiDU... maybe replacing Setup-Tashia.exe with a more recent one could help?

I've read around the forums that doing it is a good thing... so I tried to do it and I'm not experiencing any more problems (..."so far") (crosses fingers)

This last reinstall (yesterday) I tried just that. Didn't make any difference, unfortunately.

Tashia uses a very old version of WeiDU... maybe replacing Setup-Tashia.exe with a more recent one could help?

How do you mean? I used the latest Tashia, 2.05c. Is there a more recent one you're aware of?

Actually, the answer is yes, and I could find the link if you want it.
But it is unnecessary because the only difference would be in the WeiDU you would find in it.

As far as I can understand (and I can't understand WeiDU any further than I can throw it :D  ...still I'm positive that I can throw a floppy pretty far) ;) :p

...the problem is not the Tashia mod itself, but the version of WeiDU you find in the zip file you download. Which is somewhat out of date (the mod has not evolved recently, while WeiDU has).

What is suggested by WeiDU experts, in similar cases, is to get the latest version of WeiDU, rename is as Setup-"modname".exe (Setup-Tashia.exe in this case) and run
that exe to install the mod.

(You should be fine with the latest version of WeiDU you have *on your pc*)

Anyway, I'm sure there's people out there than can explain this way better than me... (goes looking for some)

Found it... hope this could make things clearer
To the Tashia forum (look at the thread topic!)

So you're saying that the latest WeiDU, renamed like that, will automatically know to expand the Tashia files, and nothing else?

(The most interesting part of what I'm saying is that this, on my pc, actually worked that way!) ;)

Really: I was just having problems with the installation of Tashia like you, searched around for possible solutions, and this one worked for me.
Now lovely Tashia has appropriate portrait, name, dialogues and romance music, Kelsey too, and all my party members walk just fine :)

Anyway, as I said, I'm no WeiDU expert... you may want to wait and see if my game still works tomorrow :o

(Or you may wait a little to hear jcompton's answer, too)

Did as you suggested, but it didn't work. Thanks for trying, though.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you :(
(Maybe my luck will run out soon and I'll have to invent something else... In case, I'll let you know!)

Yeah. When WeiDU has the word "setup-" in its name, it looks for install files that belong to the word that follow.

Setup-Tashia.exe looks for Setup-Tashia.tp2 or just Tashia.tp2, and nothing else. TP2s are install scripts.

As for the debug file, send it to jcompton@xnet.com.

Hello @Fable... here are the latest news:
The two silly dwarves "are" a lovetalk, no less  (I finally met them).
So "standard" tricks to skip/kill them don't work...
But you can try CLUAConsoleSetGlobal("LoveTalk","LOCALS",31) with mouse pointer on Tashia to progress to the next lovetalk.

They caused no problem to my game, but jumping to next lovetalk should cause no problem as well...
(I tried it on my pc, dwarves shouldn't appear and she should start a lovetalk about war).
You may also want to set Tashiaplot,GLOBAL to 10 (it should happen automatically, but just to be safe...)

ive had tashia kelsy and sola...in this install order...

tashia, after official patch and balderdash

sola, and tactics and ease and item upgrade..

kelsey...

no problems with anything....

fable, a uninstall and reinstall might be the best thing to do at this point...

my rule of thumb is oldest mods go in first, just in case of weidu issues and such, with the second oldest, as per version date,,, and that has caused no trouble at all for me....

in fact i once had tashia kelsey and arnel nalia all at once, without difficulty...nalia went in first...but then nalia is pre weidu, i think...but seriously, oldest goes in first is a really really good rule of thumb....
