Is BG2 too easy?

Post by GreedyPhil »

Is it just me or is this a very simple game to complete. I used a good aligned party on the 2nd lowest difficulty and hardly died (only against dragons). Then I used evil party on 3rd difficulty level, and it wasnt much harder. I am almost finished on 4th level now and it still has not presented much challenge. Am I just good at it or does this happen to everyone?

The level of difficulty you play on doesn't change the game that much.

The game is easy depending on how you play it, if you play it as a Powergamer then it can be too easy, but if you play around with kits and 'role play' properly then you can make it more rewarding.

If the game isn't enough of a challenge then why not try soloing as a Wizard Slayer Image

Parts of it seemed easy to me but other parts wooped my arse. I had been playing "core rules" up till the mindflayer city and then I had to turn down the difficulty. I just kept getting wooped to much.

There is a cleric spell (can't recall the name) that probably would have helped me in that area but I didn't know about it (shoulda read all the spell descriptions).

I still think that area would woop my butt though.

Anyway. Game was hard for me personally.

The spell was called Chaotic commands.

it wasn't that hard if u got the death spell
at first it thought it was going to be very difficult but when i used the death spells all the flyers dropped as death as can be Image

and with spells like chaotic commands and haste no flyer is save.

i'm now on my way to bodhi, after that i see if the game is to hard or not (not i think Image)

Odddly enough, I had no problems at all wooping Bohdi....or Irenicus actually.

I just totally screwed the pooch in that mindflayer area (and a couple other areas as well).

Maybe I hit those areas too soon in the game. Who knows.

Playing solo is much more of a challenge. Apart from some of the battles, one of the biggest problems I found was the lack of inventory space, until you get the bag of holding.

Solo a Jester, then lets see you complain about it being easy! Image

I played with core rules all the way through, every time. Not too hard, not too easy... just right! Image
Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

well, i found that as long as ou cast every protection before any major battles, like spell immunity, protetion from maic, , chaotic command, protection from fear, etc. then you shouldn't have a lot of trouble beating them, then use ruby ray, brech, remove magic, piece magic, etc on the enimes, then you could finish them with a few attack with 2 of your fighters

Yes parts of the game were too easy like the Umar Hills (excepting the dragon). Still, I had trouble with numerous battles until I worked out the right strategy. It seems once I found the right spells, really tough battles became minor skirmishes.

Nonetheless....the golems, mind flayers, beholders, liches, dragons....these baddies took some getting used to for me.

@GreedyPhil - You aren't playing a dwarf are you? A buddy of mine is playing through with a tough little dwarf barbarian and RARELY uses any one else in battle. He is convinced the game is biased in favour of dwarves and reloads only 'cause the OTHERS in his party keep dying.

That's the only thing I don't like about BGII:

That ONE message in the load screen that says: "If a battle is too hard, turn the difficulty level down..."

WHA??

What the hell is that?
If I asked my DM to "pleeze make it a wittle easier" I'd be a laughing-stock! The beauty of this role-playing thing is that there are 1000 ways to approach any situation.
The reason you keep getting your arse whooped in that tomb or dungeon is probably because you're stuck in the same train of thought when it comes to combat. Turn the difficulty down?? C'mon, at least use some of those potions and wands first!
I don't know if I'm alone here, but the whole difficulty slider thing on a BG game kinda turns my stomach. I know someone at Bioware will tell me "Yeah, well we want everyone to be abel to enjoy the game...."

Well, the last time I checked, being resourceful and original in your strategies is a hell of a lot more rewarding than going into the options and turning down the difficulty. OK, I'm now stepping OFF the soapbox...
