What is the best suit of armor?
What is the best weapon?
I was wondering because I hadn't played BG 1 in a very long time, and still dont have the exspansion for it. I really need to get the exspansion since I have BG 2 and TOB.

some spoilers below...
wothout the expantion:

2-handed: Spiderbane +2, free action (Cloakwood)
Hammer: Arsheida +2, +1 electric (south/west of Beregost)
Ranged: Composite bow +1 (Beregost), Eagle bow (don't remember where), Longbow of accuracy (Bandit camp)
Dagger of Venom +2 (Beregost)
Shortsword of Backstabbing +3 (somewhere in Baldur's Gate)
armor:
Full plate (couple of them, one in Bandit Camp)
Shadow thief armour (beregost)
with expantion, what gets added is not too good, escept a sling +3 and a 2-handed sword +3, both in Durlag's Tower

Also the ankeg armour (found in Naskell and created in beregost for a ankeg shell)
A very good armour and it's very light.
Also there is a VERY good throwing axe that returns to you're hand.
It's the best weapon in the game according to many players

Obviously the "best" armour/weapon you're talking about depends on your class... There's also some Full Plate +1 somewhere in Baldur city.
~spoil~
If you're talking about what additional loot TotSC adds to BGI, then there's actually quite a bit, including many +3 items (chainmail, a nice plate mail, staves, etc.), a magic axe of some kind, cloak/Disp, scimitars, and some more special armour/weapons like Kiel's stuff. Not to mention the gobs of experience you'll get to make the later battles easier... (Though I haven't played BGI/TotSC in quite some time either.)

Spoiler:
The +3 Short Sword of Backstabbing is carried by Slythe, the assassin in the Undercellar in Chap 7
The +1 Full Plate is worn by Tamoko, also in Chap 7.

but doesn't it make you feel all warm and fuzzy to remind yourself of the good old days... i know it does to me... that's why i'm posting here, i guess

ah, the memories...

Yeah, but I installed it again after a while and...
It's kinda sad, but I know almost all the locations of quests, items, traps....damn, maybe I should get a girlfriend....or pay more attention to the current one.
But to get to the question...
I really liked the Lady Asheena WarHammer plus 1 electrical.
It's good for spelldisruption and does blunt weapon damage.
Armor...Full plate with as many cloaks and rings as you can get, yeah the Ankegh is good for char's with low strength, but it's magical, so no RoP or CoP.

LOL indeed it does... The thing I didn't like the most in BGI was lack of pause in the inventory, though (uh, forgot if TotSC fixed that). But, after a few years, I find I've forgotten the basics of many of the quests and most of the little things, not to mention not having played many of the NPCs in BGI.... hmm, maybe I should reinstall it now.

you sure? if there's a way to disable it could you tell me? i've played though all of TotSC and almost finished BG very recently, and the game still can't be paused in the menu screen as far as i know

I'm not sure what you mean by "disable" - if you mean "disable the no-pause" issue while in inventory in BGI, then that's impossible AFAIK. I checked with a couple reviews and I guess in ToTSC the game still doesn't auto-pause while in inventory; it's a hardcoded thing. But at least you get an extra weapon slot for many classes. (I suppose the no-autopause-in-inventory *is* a bit more 'realistic' in combat...)

ah, I see. and it does reward forward planning more than just carrying a lot around with you. although it does mean that either replaying or reloading the game gets rid of any real handicap, but still...

I'd say that pre-planning in terms of the inventory slots in BGI is at least less predictable than BGII; at least BGI has random encounters in both travel and sleep. If you run out of a specific item in an item slot (e.g. scroll, potion) you still have to bring up inventory regardless, so who knows...

Well all the weapons you've listed are really nice, but still the best weapons in the game are:
Scimitar +5
Scimitar +3
My F/T really rocked...first backstab, if the victim survived "hack 'n slash (your way to fortune)"
but, the dagger +2 with 15 poison damage was really good in killing those dryads in the lighthouse area...
the best armour are
Mithril chainmail +4....
well, it's still your choice if you'd like to take them...=

Mithril chainmail +4? Isn't Full-plate +1 better?

I suppose that's technically true, but again depends on your character/class, and I didn't try for those since I played a good party...
Also, Mithril+4 has an AC1 and chain is weak against missile weapons, while Full Plate +1 is AC0, as is the TotSC Plate Mail +3.

Well, then I'll go for the full plate (non magical) with the RoP +2.
Full plate has AC on, so with the +2 it will beat the Plate +3 by 1 AND saving throws.
(I'm tempted to say: "Hah, now beat that.")

But really, I didn't get the Full Plate +1, now that I think about it; I think I usually talked Tamoko away. Or something. Man, I miss being overrun with scary packs of gibberlings...
