I have joined two Great Houses

*Warning: Possible spoilers!*****
Have you heard the rumour that it is not possible to join more than one Great House? Well, it is not true. I have just joined House Hlaalu after having been part of House Redoran for some time. I talked to a Hlaalu bigwig in Ebonheart (I don't know how he is called, I am terrible with names), he is up in a tower with two others and wears ebony armour. He thanked me for sparing his brothers life and gave me a House Hlaalu rank. After that, I was a member of House Hlaalu as well. His brother was the boss of the assassins guild. So now I have two Great Houses in the list of factions I am a member of.
I don't know if this is a bug, it does not seem so. Also, I don't know exactly what triggered this. You have to become the boss of the assassins guild without killing the previous boss of course. Also, I am Nerevarine and head of House Redoran among other things but I don't know if this has something to do with it.
I thought it would be nice to mention this here..

It's a known bug - see the info about joining another house
here. The bigwig's name is Duke Dren, btw.

One may have version older than 1.2.0722. It was known exploit, altogether it had been declared it's corrected with 1.2.0722 patch (patchset notes). However, i've never cared for joining Hlaalu, so i'm not going to claim absolute truth.

Altogether you migh agree it contradicts with spirit of the gameworld.

A bug? A common BUG? No, this cannot be. It must have been caused by my exceptional personality..
I did kill this Dren fellow at the Dren plantation, but I spared the life of some other Hlaalu (I think it was the Commonna Tong leader, a third brother perhaps?) and that is why I was named grandmaster or something of the House Hlaalu.
To prove this is not a bug: I have installed the latest patch and also Tribunal. So there!

I've got Tribunal, too - though I think I won't exploit this one, as my characters are already being run ragged by the Thieves' Guild, the Morag Tong, the Fighter and Mage Guilds, as well as the Temple and the Imperial Cult. After doing House Redoran one game, I've decided that doing Great House quests leads to too much running around with less gain. The other factions tend to dovetail nicely with each other and be in easy reach of rapid transport, especially with the Master Index plug-in and that nice ring from Tribunal.

All right, maybe it is a bug

. I was wrong about the leader of the assasin's guild, his surname is Hlaalu so that has nothing to do with it. I guess I got confused because Duke Dren makes me a Grandmaster, which also happens to be the title of the head of the Assasins guild so I got strange ideas by clicking on the "Grandmaster" link. I got the title from the Duke because I spared his brother's life, which is utter nonsense because I killed the slavekeeping capitalistic pig as soon as possible. Anyway, never mind all this..

"After doing House Redoran one game, I've decided that doing Great House quests leads to too much running around with less gain."
???
house trev has a load of GOOD loot, aryons dominator and auriel bow and amulet of flesh made whole and other unique and completely useful for any class items....house trev is seriously stocked with good stuff, and the stronghold has got steam centurion guards,,,how cool is that???
"nice ring from Tribunal."
oooooooo.......shiny ones!!
so what does the ring do???
imho, the best loot comes from trev, tribunal temple, mage guild,
i would include imperial cult, but it turns out you can get the seriously good loot simply by reading the walkthru, and just going to the proper places and fufilling the quest conditions, like you can get mara's blouse and skirt simply by having the right scrolls at the right place without ever having to join the cult...

SPOILER
The ring is a Mazed Band, and lets you summon a fabricant for 120 seconds, as well as teleport to Vivec, Mournhold, and the Clockwork City.

The Duke Dren join Hlaalu scripting bug is still present as of the most recent patch to Tribunal. Whatever fix they tried didn't work.
Does anyone know of any way to completly remove membership of a faction from a character? Not merely expelled, but totally removed? Being a member of two Great House factions is causing a lot of miscellaneous problems with the game. I haven't found any console command to do it, so I'm starting to think that I may have to resort to using a saved game editor.

Without spoiling too much, the mazed band is given to you while following the main Tribunal plot. It is very nice - being able to jump to Vivec or Mournhold from anywhere at will is quite convenient.
