Has anyone played with this character yet? I've just installed the mod but I don't know where he's supposed to appear.

No, it's a neutral evil assasin, see:

Vanim's location

Found him at last; he's in the Temple District, near one of the big statues (left one).

Ok, nice guy, doesn't talk much though. No noticeable bugs. Great with katanas, balanced stats and not overpowered. Not sure whether I can take him to ToB, so far so good in Ch 2. Recommendable. Going to side with Bodhi, collect Valen and see how it goes. Will need him to clear out the thieves' guild, lol. :)

Banter and "quest" need some more work IMHO. Tashia and Kelsey score better on banter and quests but the game already has enough magic-users. A pure thief class character was lacking so far in BG2 (except for Yoshimo...). Anyway Vanim can be a usefull addition for your party. Don't you love backstabbing with a poisoned weapon??!! :D

But why are all new NPC's that are thief class, assassins.
IMO the get to less thiefing skills, to be you're only thief in you're party, at least untill you return from the underdark.

Why not a good swashbuckler, or a multi-class fighter/thief
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Good point Stilgar. I have to admit that I don't use Vanim's thief skills (lockpicking etc.) yet , just the backstab and poison weapon skill. Thieving is done by my main character a Berserker-Thief.

What other new NPC assassins are you reffering to?

I know TDD has a assassin, and I believe there is another assassin but it was never finished or is still in creation.
Assassin's are fun, but not very good thiefs.
