<sigh> It seems BG2 doesn't agree with windows XP. After I wasted the band of roughnecks at the Seven Vales Inn, I go to Gaelan and to his house. After I agree to the price of 20000, it loads a cut scene (dunno what the scene is though) and then all of a sudden it quits and says something about a C++ "abnormal program termination".

Has anyone else had this? Any WINXp'ers? Does anyone have any advice on what to do?

As an aside, everyone with WinXP should make sure EVERYTHING in their system is updated to the latest driver/patch/whatever, not just the latest game patches. Just run Windows Update, which will not only give OS patches, but look through your system and offer driver updates as well. (kinda scary...) I played BGII last year before SP1, and it ran fine on WinXP, so it may be a driver issue with your devices.

Still no go. Is there anyway to completely terminate all cutscenes from BG2? I know I might be missing a lot but it seems to be the only other alternative

I'm not sure there's a tweak to skip all cut-scenes, but there is a tweak of some kind in Weimer's Ease of Use Mod that's supposed to skip some or shorten them at least, but it has a couple of incompatibilities.

(or) You may want to uninstall/clean cache/reinstall again, in case your game had become corrupted somehow.

I had problems with xp initially. I took the drastic step of doing a clean uninstall and putting everything back again. No more crashes

I'm sorry, but those terms are rather unknown to me could someone elaborate?

A clean uninstall of Windows XP involves wiping out the contents of your hard drive, reformatting and reinstalling everything. It's a very drastic measure and you will lose all of the data that are on your hard drive.

Err, I meant just a full uninstall and reinstall of Baldur's Gate, not the OS itself... I have a feeling that's what BGFan meant too...

Aha. That should work, too. When I hear "clean uninstall", I automatically think fdisk>format>reinstall because I do it so often (every few months). Still, even if you do the uninstall, do you have to go into regedit and take out some registry entries for BG2?

You could first try to uninstall the game totally(perhaps also removing the files are left behind. Make a backup of your saves though).
Then reinstall the game. If that doesn't fix your problems, make sure your drivers are updated, the game's patched etc, do everything the bioware admin told to do :/

LOL, I hope not on WinXP, you shouldn't need a reformat so often there.

Good question about the registry; not sure, perhaps one can find out with a search of these fora; for Windows XP users, the System Restore might be an option, too. But perhaps on the safe side, after an uninstall, just search the registry and delete entries (if you're not scared of that kind of thing...).

Yes, clean uninstall of BG2. Sorry for not being clear.

Thanks for everyones help fiexed it now. Although I'm sure I'll have a crash or two during the play time cause of damn XP.
