Does the thief ability "Detect Illusions" have use?

If I recall correctly there are not to many major illusions in the game that you can't dispell via dialogue or spell etc. However, I could see it being very, very, very...well lets say infinately useful if it could see through Mirror Image, Shadow Door, Mislead, and any other of those annoying mage illusions.

Can it see through said spells?

Yes, it sees through invisibility..... but that's about it... in teh later stages I've never found any use for it..... it is however a nice skill point taker... :D

yes, with high enough skill points, like around 150, it will completely bypass spell immunity divination...

this is one of the few things that can dispell enemy mages and liches with spell immunity divination.....

but it takes a while, so your party may get hurt, especially as you want to do it with ai off...

Detect Illusion

Helps a lot with those pesky Misleads, Backstabbers, etc. - it's a fairly useful skill IMAO

The only problem with it is that you need to allocate a lot of points to it to make it really useful.

Jan detected the illusion of the tiger-headed woman (you know the one for the genies in Trademeet) through dialoge as soon as I entered.
Does this have to do with his detect illusion stats?

jan's comment has nothing to do with how much points are allocated into DI. it's just onr of those "in-character" remarks of NPC's. That said, i find the skill very useful, and even multi-class thieves should have no problem putting enough points there. i never had problems with 100%, but maybr higher means faster?

Are you saying it's not automatic? All this time playing, and I've assumed it never needed to be triggered.

I believe you ahve to be in detect trap mode or something......... I never put much points into it, but I always thought this as the case.....

Detect Illusion

Garazdawi is correct - it operates only when you're in Detect traps mode. The nice thing is that you never run of it, like I always seem to run out of True sights...grr.....

This ability with enough skills points and the use any item skill combined with the harper pin or cloak of non-detection is kinda fun.

Just standing in a fight and dispelling every invisibility type spell they try to protect themselves with.

Also kinda fun using the non-detection items and seeing the enemies trying to dispel it.

That always did bother me. Enemies would attempt to dispel non-detection even if my party members were standing in front of them! I deliberately avoided using such items after a bit. Too cheesy. :)

CHEESE GUIDE!!!!!

what mods do you have installed, and is this specific to certain spell casting enemies????

i need details, this consumes their one spell per round, correct???

so they auto cast true sight, right???

 :p :D

Mages/Linches do that (sometimes)

I just run into a linch in the umar hills. And it cast true sight (ones) and then then It cast other spells (mostly symbols at me)

On the other hand. If you are in the underdark, and meet with the drows near the summoning machine (impirisonment), they keep casting True sight untill they run out of it.

Dunno if the improved mage AI thingie (tactics) solves this though.

LOL! You never give up, you ultimate cheese creator, do you? :D Well, I'll provide no background facts; you'll have to do your own research (which I'm sure you will; you're incredibly good at it). I do not want credit for discovering a bit of additional camembert for your shop. ;)
