Solo Sorceror

Gawd, what a struggle this is but I'm surviving . . . so far. It takes a LOT of planning and the order in which you can do things is dramatically different; what were easy fights with a team become exhausting battles, especially since I'm not that strong, yet. I would not recommend this to anyone not intimately familiar with the game.
Anyway, is there anything in the game besides the Shield of Balduran (which I can't use) that will protect me from beholders? I don't recall ever seeing anything but maybe someone has a better memory than I do.

Cloak of reflection.
You will find in in the Suahagin City (or how that is called), on a Suahagin Priestress.

spell turning in combination with spell shield.....
this is actually better than baldy shield, since it will stop anti magic ray cold, unlike the baldy shield....
but most of the time warriors use the shield, so few people ever even notice...until you have a fighter mage lose stoneskins...

The solo sorc becomes (imo) the most powerful character in the game. True it is a little tough to start with, but if you do a little bit of planning where the spells are concerned before starting things should be ok. I found that melf's minute meteors and stone skins are a must

If you pick the right spells you can load up contingincies that will be able to take care of just about any battle you come across.

You can search through User's posts in this forum for great tips on the solo sorc. Oh, key words will be "Bun Bun".
BTW, it's not possible to solo a sorc if you have improved dungeon mod.

Too hard. I have tried to solo it with all the cheesy classes I can think of. Couldn't do it.

nothing is impossible, you just have be really lucky with your rools and hope for maximum damage all the time......afetr 100 tries you might finally get through it....

, hopefully anyway....

I'm just playing the "basic" out-of-the-box game with no "mods".
I'm making steady, albeit slow, progress. I finished Bloodscalp and all of the Bridge District stuff (except the rogue stone deal where I get the Staff Of The Magi . . . not strong enough, yet). My next project is Linvale's 3rd errand (Bodhi & Co.); I'm hoping that Tenser's Transformation might pull me through but we'll see how it goes.
So far, the biggest irritants are traps and trapped doors. I know they're there and I know I'm going to take a hit and there's nothing I can do about it.(shrug)
I can't wait until Windspear, Druid's Grove, Eyeless Cult, etc.

"(except the rogue stone deal where I get the Staff Of The Magi . . . not strong enough, yet). "
my first cheese ever was a simple and easy way to beat the twisted rune at a medium level...
get the project image or simmy spell, and skull trap or delay blast fireball spell...
go in, then save the game, trigger dialog and using farsight or wiz eye note the spawn points of all the nastys...then reload, and put about 5 skulls or delay blast fire balls in each spawn point using image or simmy which will not trigger spawn...this essentially kills off every one except the lich, who can be handled with remove magic, and delay blast fireballs...lich immunity, you know...making yourself immune to fire and casting inc cloud works well for liches...
now, if this is the improved twisted rune, you need to be very high level to win that puppy...i recommend spraying the entire area with inc cloud, and making yourself immune to fire, and using mislead via contingency with all the defensive spells you can cast...and even then its touch and go on core or higher..

Improved Twisted Rune...
Hmm...sounds like a Job for Project Image Jan with Spike Traps. LOTS and LOTS of spike traps, since clones override the 7 trap limit, right?. Spike Traps are so broken.......

Just cast stone skin, mirror image and imp invisibility and you are close ti immune ta all traps.......

, and if you by chance die..... it will only take you one re-load to pass the trap....

A M/T multi can solo (no reload even) the Imp. Illyich dungeon. It just takes a lot of care (and cheese

).
The biggest problems are the darned spawning thieves and the glabrezu.
Spells: mirror image, invisibility, magic missile, fireball, monster summoning I, melf's meteors, haste, stoneskin are all musts (even enchanted weapon is very useful here as is strength if you neglect open locks).
Skills: concentrate esp. on hide in shadows and move silently. Put at least 25 in detect illusions.
For the thieves, hide or go invisible immediately and use summoneds to make them waste their wand charges.
Separate the golem and the glabrezu from the rest and lock them in a room. Deal with each later.
While hidden use hasted summoneds to make the spell casters waste their spells, if you want, or just...
Make frequent use of the snipe at the edge of visual range, back up and immediately hide tactc to kill Illyich and the gang.

Another Way
The way I did it (with a team) was to position Anomen where the lich "reappears" and (after 2-3 tries) kill him instantly with the Mace of Disruption. If you don't drop the lich, things get ugly in a hurry. Anomen would also be equipped with the Shield of Balduran, so without even moving, he could usually drop the Beholder. He would then move juuuust enough to his right to attract the Vampire but not the nasty to the NE and then he would drop him. Then the whole team would assault the whatever-she-is in the NE corner of the room and voila!
Solo, with no killer mace or shield, this fight becomes slightly more difficult.
I'm not a believer in "cheese", so we'll see how it goes.
