I cant see why a sorceror would need 17 con (everything above 16 is useless, no more bonus) , but good scores ;)

the point is he will have maxed stats =D, the point would be wasted in char, semi useful in str but useless once i have the belt. in either case all stats would be maxed except con if i put it there.

And if there is no dif between 16 and 30 con well... you have 16 and i have 17 so there =P

awesome stats - I've only been able to get that with multi-classes and pallys.

This is why I’m an advocate of the Point Buy system.

Why, that adds up to 90.
My best roll was 97:

Paladin
18/96
18
18
10
15
18

You can generally get a 94 easily, like in 5 minutes. I heard some dude kept rolling for two hours until he got 102.

I agree with Kayless about the point buy. If your goal is to have maximum stats - why not just use an editor?

I have more fun with slighly handicapped chars - try some low stat dudes for a change... :)

I never liked the point-buy system... With the dicerolls you have the ability to play a whatever way you please: Balanced or not.

My thoughts exactly. :)

I'm afraid I don't understand. I still play the game however I want with Point Buy. All the Point Buy system does is actually make you think about character design and prevent uber characters from wandering around.

If you want to play as Superman using an editor will still do the trick for you.

The point buy system is always limited to this and that amount of scores. This is the thing I don't like. If dice roll system was used people would have the ability to powergame, making it somewhat easier for a first tiem gamer, and the ability to play a balanced character if you so please. With point buy, you are forced to have a certain amount when done buying. Like it was in NWN.

But the thing is, everyone sits at the screen re-rolling their scores until they are happy. It changes from a "luck" based stat generation to a "who can click the button the most" competition.

I Control+8 my stats, then use a 32 point buy system. Works for me.

Its all a matter of what way you like to play - no right or wrong here. My only point was that if you are going to roll for a hour why not just use shadowkeeper and make the stats that way you want them.

I personally would rather be playing the game than hitting the re-roll button. :)

My personal experience with pen and paper gaming is probably where I get my bias in this area - no self respecting DM would let you roll your stats until your eyeballs fall out - in fact may dms I play with will only allow one roll - thats it - and you live with your stats - funny thing is some of my most interesting and beloved chars have low first roll stats for their abilities.

*agrees with smass*

That's probably where I get my dislike for continual re-rolling. I'm a big time PNP D&D player, and most often I'm the DM for my group. If a player asked to re-roll his stats for no reason other than "I want higher ones", I'd laugh :)

Sure, if they were all abismally low I'd let him.. but not with average or slightly above average scores.

I have never played pnp d&d, tried once with 3 people but one quit in like 5 minutes. I know proabably at most 2 of my friends even have the slightest idea of even what the game is about, nevermind played, because of the stigma that only nerds play it. Anywho however stat rolling goes there, my point is I was able to get said role without an editor. if you want to call it unfair or cheesy or whatever for the reasons above, you have a valid point. To be honest i don't play hardcore enough to notice what a difference 8 points in wisdom makes. All I know is i like to max out the stats directly related to my character class, and less than 10 str is annoying. On the optimal party thread some guy says hes hitting the xp cap in spellhold with 6 guys...I can't comprehend that, having finished the game and not even approached the cap. Maybe he is doing every single quest in and out of Ahtalka before going on, but it still seems early. to be honest i'm digressing and starting to forget what im responding to so ill end with this- I thought it was a nice role and thought i'd share it on the board.
