Okay, I've played through a lot of BG a few times, but I have never actually beat the game.. so I figured it was definitely time to do so.

I'm working on a 6 person party, because I like all the NPC interaction and such. So far, I have come up with:

PC (Undead Hunter OR Archer)
Imoen
Minsc
Jaheira
Edwin
Viconia

That gives me two (or three) melee types (Minsc, Jaheira and maybe my UH), two mages (Edwin and Imoen), two priests (Viconia and Jaheira), and Imoen as my thief.

I know Minsc and Edwin don't exactly get along.. but is there anyway I can stop them from coming to blows?

If you want interactions, you gotta have Jan.

To stop them from fighting, they're are a couple files around that will make them stop...but I don't have any that come to mind. Wait for another member to come and help.

The thing is I don't know who to drop for Jan. Imoen is the first that comes to mind.. but I'll feel kind of bad if I ditch *spoiler* my sister *spoiler*.

I would drop Jaheira.

Big question: Which romance should I do? Jaheira or Viconia? Hm..

[edit] Argh Jaheira is cool though. Would I be okay with only Minsc and myself as the melee types?

After thinking about it.. Jaheira isn't really that useful, is she? She can melee a bit, but that's what the paladin and Minsc are for. She can cast druid spells, but Viconia is a straight cleric (with magic resistance).

Jaheira: Ironskin, Delorus Decay, Creeping Doom, Nature's Beauty, Harper's Call (!).

Viconia: Spell resistance..

I like Jaheira's much more, but Viccy's is decent enough, with ToB. Without...its your call, really. Some like one, some like the other.

How fun are Edwin's dialogs? I might just drop him and rely on Imoen and Jan as my mages.. I've never actually used Edwin, and I was thinking he'd be fun to try out but.. if he's not all that interesting of a personality, I won't bother with him.

Unless someone tells me that Edwin is an interesting personality, I'm going to replace him with Jan.

So, given the new party, how does it look balance wise?

Edwin has some interesting and funny dialog, his sidequest involving the nesser scroll is just hilarious
And he is the best mage you can have.
A suggestion: Since you can't get Imoen for quite some time, why not get along with Jan until you rescue her ?

omg, don't drop edwin out, he's the best npc mage in the game
and if you're intent on getting a paladin, get an inquisitor, it's clearly the best paladin class in the game.
don't get imoen as she blows in a 6 player party, she won't get enough xp.
take jan as your thief and an extra mage.
i'd take viccy instead of jaheira, because she has that great resistance. unless you have tob installed, viccy is way better than jaheira.
you could get minsc for a some melee stuff, but you should kick him out in tob for sarevok.
you don't need that much fighters in soa, since there's not that much melee in soa.
korgan is a way better fighter than minsc, he's a real tank
if you don't want to be an inquisitor, you could get keldorn in as well. inquisitors are great.

minsc and edwin won't get into a fight if you reply the right way, i never had'm attack eachother.

unless you have tob installed, viccy is way better than jaheira.

And how could Imoen be THAT bad compared to Edwin? Sure, Edwin has the extra spells but that doesn't mean Imoen "blows".

Well, Jan is a must if NPC interaction is your thing, but they all have something interesting to say. I think Edwin's personal quest is the funniest in the game. Anyway, for interesting interaction, I think I'd go:

PC
Jan
Edwin
Minsc
Anomen
Jaheira

Look for lots of colour in THAT party. But, as I always say, flavour to taste. There are some pretty interesting MOD NPCs too, like Solaufein, Kelsey & Tashia. Don't sweat party balance - I sus[ect ANY party can do fine.

Actualy it is posssible to boot your pc from the party and he says some liek good night ladies ladies good night pretty odd.
Im not sure how this would affect the game however. Also you need that clua program to do this. Holding control andhitting one of the keys(not sure which one will do this)and poof he will ask if he can leave. the mouse must be over your pc though

I would take Imoen along. I like her personality, and only evil PCs would leave her behind, roleplaying-wise.
