You could learn spells in a certain level from the lower levels.
lvl 1 Magic Missle x 5
lvl 2 Magic Missle x 5 (a lvl 1 spell)
lvl 3 Melf's Meteor x 5
lvl 4 Melf's Meteor x 5 (a lvl 3 spell)
lvl 5 Stone Skin x 5 (a lvl 4 spell)
etc..

That sounds vaguely like what I do in BG 1 sometimes. I cheat in all the scrolls and memorize them, then give my mage the Robe of the Evil Archmagi, two Rings of Wizardry, and the best staff in the game...Actually this sounds nothing like that at all...Oh well...Anyway, it is a cool, if somewhat unbalancing idea.

not to demean your approach by any means, too each his own, but i find the fun part for me is finding the items (well not really anymore i know 2 much now) or saving up the money to buy them. Heck in bg1 i spent a week of real-time at the Firewine stocking up on Fire arrows (got 2 per kobold) had my main char level 4 with every piece of antimissle equip in the game, would send him in solo to rack up the kills, the kobolds would shoot at him and roll at -10 to hit, and his ac was -6, so except on crits he never got hit, (sighs) those were the days.

This didn't ruin anything for me; it was around my fourth time through, and I knew all the locations, but wasn't patient enough to wait.
