Is there anywhere on this island where I can buy items or hav a rest to gain some life?
Should I be doing this island last because it seems extremely hard?

I don't remember that you could buy / sell stuff there,
but you can always look
here at gamebanshee.
You can rest anywhere you want so you're cleric regains his healing spells to heal everyone.
And yes the island is very hard, and I wouldn't recommand goint there untill you have reached baldur's gate, or even later.

May Contain SPOILERS!
Okay IIRC you can always rest at the southern part of the island, no dogs or wolfwere's will attack there.
Healing I dunno, but just rest ten times if you think it's necesary and let your cleric's do the healing.
Now, is the Island hard? Well it depends, I dunno wich level your at, but if you can cast a spell like haste, your making a lot of tough fights real easy.
You will encounter one realy bad baddy and I was fortunate enought to have Resiliant Sphere cast around him.
So I agree that you shouldn't try it until you did your work in BG, and gain a level 7 or 8 (at least if your a mage) and get some good weapons (varscona, asheenda, the scimitar at the top of Durlags Tower) have an archer with good arrows (Biting and Acid are my fave) and get some potions of speed and haste scrolls.
It should be do-able.
REMEMBER!!! wolfwere's are very magic resistant, so before you go into the den, rest and have your mages remember spells that they can use in defence.

Guys,
Thanx alot but I have just realised something very sad.
I was under the impression that I had to finish Baldur's Gate before I could carry on with TOSC. So I went and killed Sarevok, finished the game and then installed TOSC. Now all the experience I had gained after I ran the XPCAP patch is gone and I am back to 89k.
This really sucks because I was so close to the next level for so many of my characters. I gues I will go back to one of my save games and start the last bit over.

Can't you just use SK to add your lost exp, or don't you have a final save to edit with the missionpack.?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is SK and how do I use it?
I do have a final save.

SK is Shadow Keeper and is a editing program for BG1 with TotSC.
With it you can edit things like: exp., stat's, inventory etc.
If you have a final savegame try to load it with the missionpack that's a button in one of the first screens, (Single player=> New Game, Load game, MISSION PACK) Dunno what exactly went wrong in your case so it may not help.
You can also just go back to an old quicksave and not go and fight Sarevok and do the TotSC quests.
You can get Shadow Keeper
here ![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)
and the credit goes to mud-master.com.
Also I would like to recommend
this site by kayless.
Have fun and let us know if something doesn't work out

Thanx for all the help guys.
I have Gatekeeper now as well and I will use Shadowkeeper when I start BG2 next week. Just finishing off the wolfweres now and then I will do the rest of TOSC before starting BG2.
Cheers
