How do earned proficiency dots for dual classed characters work. for example I have a fighter (lvl9
) dualled to a mage (lvl 10) and both classes are active. Can I still assign dots until the max of 5 is reached(fighter max) or just 1 (mage max) ?

If memory serves me correctly - officially, you can only place one star, and only in mage usable weapons (you can no longer advance in fighter skills, having dualed to mage), but actually you can place multiple stars in any weapon you can use. However, it's been a while since I played Kensai/Mage
