Ok here is my situation...
I started a shapeshifter and i need some mage power in my party (just got out of dungeon)
What should I do..
1.) Get Aerie (I am planning on keeping Jaheira in my group, dont feel like dealing with the two fighting)
2.) Nalia ( Also whats happens if you always say no to her quest, does she evetually go away or should I just do it??)
3.) Use the combined forces of Imoen and Jan
I do not want to use Edwin... Comments appreciated.

Well, I say Nalia and Aerie.
Aerie have cleric (that are quite diferent from Druid spells) and mage spells but she cannot cast the higher one, Nalia is a almost a pure mage (the almost is the thief class but that does not come in consideration in the maximun level she can get as a mage), but get Imoen, she is stonger that Nalia both as a mage(one extra spell slot, and she is not a expecialist mage) and as a thief (she is a higher thief but againg that does not come under consideration in the maximun level she can get as a mage).
Dont worrie about those two fighting, none will leave the party because of that.
Also do Nalia quest early since you can get some nice items very soon and the monsters there will not be as strong that in later.

I say go with Jan. After all, you need a thief just as much (if not more) than you need a mage.
If you want a mage that goes up levels faster, go with Nalia.
If you want Cleric spells (and you should), get Anomen as well. He is also a decent fighter. By the time his fighting ability starts looking a bit stagnant, he'll have some good high-level cleric spells to make up for it.
Aerie isn't a whole lot of use.

* Nalia is probably the best mage for a Good party if you can stand the constant "How is this helping the poor?" crap. I have always kept her around.
* Jan is decent as a mage and can also fulfill the thief duties freeing up another space for a tank. I pick him up periodically for some quests.
* Imoen is as useful as Nalia but I hate losing her for so much of the game. I do alot of the quests early so there isn't much left by the time I have to pick her up again.
* Aerie is great as a second mage and second cleric. I almost always travel with at least two clerics and two mages so Aerie saves me one spot. Just don't let her melee with her puny hit points.

I had nalia in my party solely for the purpose of going to the d'arnise stronghold and getting the flail of the ages, god i love that slow with no save, makes battles so much easier

You dont need nalia in your party to go to the keep, just tell her to meet you there and go in alone. I oftenly have aerie in my party since she is great as both a cleric and a mage. Learn her healing spells and let jaheira(i prefer anomen) concentrate on offensive spells. since I have removed the xp cap i dont have to worry about max number of spells and so. It was very funny to fight the final battle with my soloing ranger lvl 21 / cleric lvl 26.
