Newbie (not-so new to the game) needs help *some spoilers abound*

:) Ahh, a pearl to ye all! Galuf here's jus' put on a set of new hobnails, and is lookin' fer' some help with a bit of a serious problem!

*clears throat* Well, you see, my version of SoA may not be too compatible with WinXP, and I'm getting bad problems with some dialogues for lesser quests and certain shopkeepers not working. I'm needing a solution FAST, because this is driving me crazy!

I've been successful at upgrading performance by deactivating the "enhanced pathfinding" option (got through Waukeen's Promenade, thankfully), and finished Nalia's Stronghold quest (PC's a Paladin/Cavalier, FYI). But now I'm stuck in Trademeet dealing with the Genies! I've got Ihtafeer's head, but Khan Zhara won't initate dialogue, and the window says "Cannot Initiate Dialogue. Khan Zhara appears busy."

I know this has happened but I need advice, BAD!

Any good advice will be taken.

This is a fairly well known problem.

Have you tried downloading the latest official SoA or ToB patch? This usually solves the difficulty.
You might also want to check out the Baldurdash fixes (there is a link in the crossroads sticky near the top of the page)

I thought as much

Yeah, I guess this is the best thing to do. I suppose viruses are hardly an issue with this?

Also, are these "official" SoA and ToB patches from Baldurdash, or a different site (ie: Bioware, Infrogrames, etc.)?

I'll try downloading it soon, as soon as I muster the courage. *shudders, since this is the first time he's ever patched a game*

FYI, I've been to this site alot in the past, but I only registered today out of this dilemma.

All in all, thanks for the input, dragon wench. *nods*

*rushes back in, having forgotten to say/write such*
Oh, and erm, could you perhaps provide some links to these sites as well?

Galuf, if you click here you will find links for pretty much any patch and mod that has been created for the game :)
http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/showt ... adid=14366

Patching and downloading is not that scary, I am no computer techie (as others here will attest :D ), and I managed it fine ;)

Just make sure that you place anything you download into your SoA folder (located in your C drive, under "programme files," and then under "black isle" :) )
Good luck!

DW's right, just DL and install the official patch from Bioware to fix the "appears busy" bug in XP. As to patching, all you need to do is DL it, then just open it like you would any other icon or program....it does the rest for you ;)

Yup, simple as making a peanut butter sandwhich (licks his lips thinking about that).

It's like putting a pair of new shoes! You start to get used to it and it's not such a bad thing. Right now the download's about 75% complete, so I'm happy. :D

*looks down* Oh, by Dumathoin! *rubs the drool he made off of his beard* Can't keep thinkin' 'bout my stomache, can I?

Well, I got used to be kinda funny at times, because I was around people who were like that for a long time, and I like to lighten the mood of some situations. Even my brother's girlfriends thought(think) I was(am) kind of interesting to be around.

(I don't believe I've heard of DragonRealms) :o

*meanwhile, is found dousing his beard in a horse trough*
(Sigh) Moradin, y'e just don't make beards like ye used to. *eyes a horse looking to use the trough as well* Hold on, ye'll get y'er turn, you long legged kobold!

An interesting bug happened to me today.

While around the end of the Priest stronghold quest, I bring the rod to the forgotten temple, and after the priest summons the avatar, he goes through the dialogue AGAIN, causing a second avatar to appear after the first one's done. Not that I got a second "Saving Grace", but it just was there to give dialogue. Wierd.

*As Galuf is making his way out of the tavern, he watches a beautiful human noblewoman pass by. Distracted, he knocks into the courtyard's drawbridge gear* Oh mish-mash!! *his beard starts to get wound into the gear*

This happens to me occasionally - though elsewhere - and is generally due to a global failing to get set properly. There is one NPC in the game, who has a mini-quest notorious for this problem.

Ahh, Sojourner! I've seen you around here before! I remember the days I would be reading this forum for facts, and it seemed like that was what you seeped out of your pores!

Erm, uh, that sounds nothing like Cyrano, I guess. :(

*suddenly, he whips out a mythril forge hammer, and with a home-run swing, smashes the gear like it was made of clay*

Phew, and I thought I'd look like a giant gnome soon enough! *frees his beard from the mess*
