Has the bow become extinct

Ok so in baldurs gate the standard tactic was to just expose a bad guy from the fog, run away and fire him full of arrows. However in BG2 this doesn't work because the monster "calls his friends" and they all come at you. Now this makes for a much more realistic game and I'm not complaining but it does seem to negate the need for bows. The first time I played I really wanted to play with a cavallier but the abscence of a long ranged weapom put me off. It really shouldn't hae as I hardly ever seemed to use a bow, even with all my mages ( my prefered party includes, aerie, Nalia, Jaheria and Imoen ) there didn't seem to be any need for them. Any thoughts on how to balance this out in BG3 or if you just want to tell me I'm wrong!

I find that bows are less important in BGII, but they're still useful. Check out the thread on calculating to hit bonuses with magic bows and arrows and you'll see that people are using bows.

Generally, my archer(s) only fire off a few rounds before rushing into melee. I rarely use non-magical arrows (there's plenty of magic ones out there to keep you quivers full.

Sometimes, though, you need to keep your fighters back from your own area of effect spells.

Basically, to use arrows and bullets you need to be able to keep your opponents from engaging everyone in your party in melee.

P.S. That thread I mentioned is called 3 + 2 =5.

It's just that even when my cavalier and Mince are keeping all the opponents busy, my mages do a lot more good hurling magic missiles than they do pebbles!

There is always room for at least one archer. A good bet is your thier with bracers of archery and either a high end bow, or the real quick one (name escapes me) found on the beastmaster. Use the archer to harrass mages and clerics until the heavy hitters can get there.

Waverly's technique is pretty much the one that I use also. If there is an enemy caster I want someone hitting him asap. Yoshima is my archer for now.

What beast master drops a good bow? I killed a beastmaster but can not recall where. Copper Coronet maybe? More info please Image

Back by the fighting pits in the CC. You beat him if you freed the slaves. Didn't you loot his stuff? IMHO, 3 shots per round is a better deal than the higher damage bows.

Edit: here it is: Tuigan Bow +1 Check GB's weapon section for more info.

I did kill him and thought I looted all his stuff. I have several magical bows now but not entirely sure where I got them all.

What is his bow called?
