I've killed everything in the dungon, scooped up tadpoles and koa-toa blood and tried dropping them at the feet of the statue in order to 'wake the deamon', but nothing... what am i doing wrong?

Welcome to GameBanshee, Fiske. :)

Tadpoles are not for the summoning but for the battle against the Kua-Toa Prince.

As UserUnfriendly said, you need to sacrifice a living creature to summon the deamons. The best way is to use summonning spell, but you can also send an NPC, such as Anomen, to see what happens. :D

I normally summon up a couple of packs of dogs or wolves both to act as fodder and to trigger the statue. If you have a thief with trap setting skills you may want to booby trap the area before hand. Haste your caster, send him/her in alone to summon the sacrificial animals, make one or more walk over to the statue and run out of the room. The traps will soften the Demon Knights (?) up a bit, may even cause them to panic, while you can now lure them out one by one (hopefully) and waste them. If you've already killed the Kua-Toa prince you can drop the tadpoles as they are useless now.
