I have killed all the smugglers and am looking for the thief's ring. It is supposed to be hidden inside the cave. Can anyone help me find it. I have been looking for about an hour and can't find it. Thanks

It is very hard to find.
Right-click to open your 'menu mode'; lift-click on the map upper right corner and make sure it is in local mode. Reduce it to minimum size (about 1"x1") and move it into your upper right corner of your computer screen. Right-click again to close the 'menu mode'. (Doing this will give you a permanent map for your travels. If you don't want it, go back to menu mode and left-click the upper right corner; this will disable the map during travel.)
Now look closely at the map. Places you have been will be clearly defined including tunnel walls; places you haven't will be dark and have fuzzy edges.
This is the first cave I went to, and is a little fuzzy in memory, but I know the first time I played my son had to show me where the ring is; this most recent time, it still took me a while even though I knew it was there!
The entrance to the tunnel is obscure and on the left side as you go in, and I think it's before you head down into the lower portion of the caves. I also remember a big pile of boulders near the entrance. The ring itself is near a skeleton and some self-illumination plants (the names escape me)

Is this part of a quest? Its not ringing any bells for me. Is the ring just a common Thief's Ring (like the Fighter or Mage Ring) or something better?

Common Thief Ring - not part of any quest, but very useful for novice questor.
