Bypassing Neravarine quests 4 and 5 (possible spoilers)

I'm not sure how I did it but somehow I've bypassed the quest to become horator of three houses and Whatchmacallit of the four Ashlander tribes. After I picked up Azura's ring I went back to talk to the wise woman at Urshilaku Camp (as your journal advises you to do). At first she was alarmed that I hadn't done the two quest yet and told me to talk to the Archcanon Saryoni. I ended that dialog and initiated a new one with her. This time she explained quest four to me (become horator) and told me to come back when I had done that to get quest five. I'm in Redoran House (councilman level) so I talk to my mentor who tells me I need to kill Venim in a dual to become both horator and head of House Redoran. He also tells me that Saryoni wants to talk to me - but he doesn't give me the two notes (the ones from the Oridinators and Saryoni). So I kill Venim in the dual and go to Saryoni. I don't talk to anyone else - just beeline it over to the Archcanon. He tells me that I need to see Vivic as though I had already done Neravarine quests 4 and 5. I see Vivic, he doesn't care about not being horator, etc. and gives me the gauntlet. I go back to my Redoran mentor, get named as both Head of Redoran and Redoran Horator and then he gives me the two notes that I should have had to begin with. Now I just need to get Keening and Sunder and finish off Daggy. I wonder if this has anything to do with my earlier courtesty call on Daggy?

This is somewhere inbetwixt the main quest and the backdoor method. Anyone else ever have this occur? This shortcut is going to save me a lot of tedious running around. It'll be interesting to see if I can finish the other horator and Ashlander quests after Daggy is dead.

Yep, you found the other backdoor route.

If you ignore the main quest and get to a certain point both in your character's level and in their reputation (although I don't recall the exact numbers) there are about a dozen NPCs in the game who simply steer you to Saryoni. Divath Fyr, Baladas Demnevanni, Yagrum, the oracle at the imperial temple, others I don't recall offhand.

I've had it happen a time or two.

Very interesting! I have not had that happen. Mind you I have yet to join a house (2 runs at the game) and I focused on the Main Quest (with a couple of Factions on the side - I didn't want to get too many - confusion about where I was and what I was doing), but it makes sense. If you get the activated Wraithguard from Vivec, then I say drive on.

Once your reputation hits 50 and you're far enough along with the main quest, this backdoor becomes available. It's very easy to obtain such a high reputation if you're doing quests for the Imperial Cult, Temple, and Morag Tong.
