Just wondering what the best starting character classes you've come up, to give me some ideas for a new starting character.

Mine would be a Fighter/Mage in Lawful Evil

Give him the Kensai kit (if he's multi-clas) and you'll have a very nice character.

With ToB installed, lately I came to appreciate Kensai/ Thief as well. When you come to choose abilities, the Use Any Item ability allows you to wear armour, and cast spells from scrolls. Near perfection.

personally, i like the swashbuckler. they start out with low ac, but when they get to higher level, not only do they have killer ac, but they get 'use any item' which makes them even more bad ass if you have the stats to go with it. i also like the monk. granted, they don't seem very strong starting out, but once they get higher level, they gain magic resistances(evenutally getting up to max resistance) and they are totally immune to poison. that's always a bonus. and like the swashbuckler, they have low ac too.

It all comes down to persnal taste so every character qualifies. In terms of powergaming there are imho just a few options like Sorceror,kensai/mage,kensai/thief,berserker or Ranger/Cleric

Me, it would have to be the Paladin that I'm in Chpt. 5 in right now. I've never seen such interesting fights with Beholders and Mind Flayers ever before! I've been playing on Core Rules difficulty, and my guys do tend to take some damage, but the amount they give back brings a smile to my face! Of course, he is wielding Carsomyr, but he'd still kick alot of but anyway.

His stats are as such

19 Str
17 Dex
19 Con
10 Int
17 Wis
19 Cha

Proficiencies:
* Bastard Sword
** Long Sword
** Two-Handed Sword
* Flail
* Sword and Shield Style
** Two-Handed Weapon Style

He's currently at level 16, and last night I got the blood of the Kua-Toa Prince and the Elder Orb's eye stalk. He will go far, very far. ;)

Good luck to the rest of you.

The most efficient characters are imho monk and sorceror (single class), ranger/cleric (multiclass) and kensai/mage (dualclass).
However, I found that the most powerful characters aren't necessary the most fun to play. My favorite pc ever was a wild mage because the roleplaying aspect was so great. Sure, he accidently bombarded the rest of the party with a fireball or web every now and then or got a cow dropped on his head, but that made it fun.
Pick a class/kit that seems interesting. If you want power, there's plenty of good npc's to complement your party. :)

The best character I've ever had was my self created Archer-Necromancer (with help from User :p )

He really let everyone bite the dust, though in some cases he needed party members to, mostly against gianst and such, when my arrows had no use. (TDD makes it much more harder to play an Archer)
HiS stats are: 14/19/16/15/17/17 (BG 1 imported)
Hes an half-elf, chaotic good, Archer-Necro

Without editing my character I would go for the Archer alone, he simply rocks, even with only a bow (85% of my party kills) and no magic..
