spcifically, who do i find the windspear hills, nonspacificly, who do I find/get to some of the other areas of the 'world' map? I know that they usually pop up when asked to perform a quest, but now I've been holding these dam acorns for weeks now and I'de like to get rid of them.

Speak to Lord Jordan Fierkrag in the Copper Coronet (in the Slums district) . He is the one in red, and he says "I have an offer," or something to that effect.
You can also often get to other areas by walking to the edge of a map.

Those nuts that those fariy gave you in Irenicus' dungeon at the beginning of the game are to be given to a bunch of faries in Windspear Hills.
In order to get to windspear hills in the first place you must speak to Lord Firkragg in the Copper Corronet. Talking to him will open up another quest (not part of the fary quest) and will make Windspear Hills appear on your map.
Go to windspear hills and in the South-East section of the area you will find a bunch of faries standing around. Talk to the main one and thats it!
