Hi, I'm just about to start a new game, and it will be the fourth time for me...i just can't get enough. The trouble is that I allways wish for that seventh slot for an NPC. I know that there are lots of MOD's around, I was just windering if there is something that would allow me to have that one extra NPC.

thanx

I don't think there is any way to add a seventh member. There are a lot of mods, but not of that kind.

Welcome to GB. :)

It would indeed be a great Mod...........you can bet on it, that you are not the only one who wished there could be a seventh slot.

Maybe an idea for JC??
I shall post around a bit and see if it s possible to make a Mod with allowes you to have a 7th NPC.........

It would be nice, but also not very easy in the managing and handling. Sometimes I think that 6 are more than enough.

Company of Eight Mod! But...

Hi orinbalenovic. There used to be a mod that allows up to eight characters at this site. The link appears dead now.

6 is too many as it is for me. I rarely have a party over 4. I think 7 would be ridiculously agonizing to manage.

I agree. Smaller parties with more specialized and skilled members is the way to go. I find six members dilutes the level ups and abilities of my party to much. In small parties I never have pure fighters or mages. I always use dualed or multiclass types who can bring more to the table. With less point sharing the level ups are fantastic and I actually think these smaller parties are more devastating. Also you don't have to share all the good equipment amongst six people and can concentrate the best stuff on your smaller party for better results. I never play with more than 5 permanent members and prefer two to three member parties.

Boo is a 7th, and very smart, party member. Your familiar makes it 8!

Seriously though, I agree with the others. Smaller is better. 4 seems a good number for party interaction vs. power. For pure power, try a solo game.

You can have NPC's come & go. For examply, you need to take Valygal (or kill him) in order to complete a certain quest. As soon as I am in the door, he is out of the party.

Now that I think about it my first run through the game I only had 4 members a PC F/T, Viconia, Edwin, and Haer'Dalis; and it actually wasn't that difficult even for my first time through. And after I did it with 4 I went to soloing. My favs were Berserker/Mage and Sorceror.... never got too far with the Monk.

Well, I have to agree that a large party can sometimes be a handfull. But one of the reasons why I like BG so much more than IWD is the NPC banter plus I sorta', kinda' feel bad when it's time to ditch someone. Anyhow, thanks for the help folks, I'll be sure to check back, or tell you if I found anything (doubt it, but hey...)

I've seen this particular request on several different modding forums, and the answer is always the same (unfortunately...)

It is impossible to do because the 6-party limit is hard coded in the game's engine, meaning that one would actually have to hack into the .exe files of the game and overhaul it. Not an easy task, I would assume...

But...I've also learned that ANYTHING is possible ;)

Bingo, thats the problem right there. The engine is designed for a limit of six, no more. You would need to overhaul the game engine...not something thats really worth doing.

Personally, I would love to have a party of 7 or 8. :)
