I take my leaving as well

I also happened to read something above the lines. I NEVER reported anything. Why?
  • I don't find an offence so a terrible injury that it can't be resisted. Sometimes strong friendships are born this way, after reconciliations. Hey, I'm italian. I'm used to verbal wars like SYM has never seen, for a soccer game.
All have outbursts now and then. It's more suspect when they don't.
  • Second, I never wanted anyone banned (except maybe the guy who posted about white superiority..)
  • Third (first?) I find it sometimes a worse action than the offense. An act of cowardice sheltered by the...
You know when kids taunt the "spy"? Sometimes kids are wiser than us.
Let me explain these points.

Point one.
I have a bad temper. This is mitigated, and (maybe) little noticed, 'cause I usually reply from off-line, sometimes hours after having read the topics. I read to take a short break in what I do, and reply when I have really free time.
So my posts are less hot than they could be, even if something annoyes me, as I read it.
But I understand the outbursts. They're part of my being. Even more, they're part of my sister's being. She has the worst temper ever, it's really hard to stay close to her.... I love my sister.
Others are always cold, and subtly avoid direct flames and all is well. Good to them. They'll be able to wander the forums longer, it seems.

Point two.
Sailor Saturn, gnomethingy, at99, Gruntboy got banned while I was "here"...
I have not well defined opinions in many fields (exceptions: science, terrorism and... italian soccer :D ).
I usually disagree with the majority of posters here, but I always enjoyed the reading, and I changed *some* of my positions. I disagreed with Sailor Saturn in the debate that led to her banning. Waverly's replies were brilliant and to the point. She did flame Waverly. But my point is: I'm sure, absolutely SURE that Waverly did NOT report the flames himself. Call it intuition. And this leads me to

Point three.
Not that an innocent, "rightful" report has to be blamed, per se. But behind it..
Nobody is really shocked by a few taunting words, come on. My feeling is that reports are done when someone dislikes the poster. You just have to grab the occasion, the casus belli that is, to get rid of him.
But the bellum started is easily won, without even having to show your face, and the opponent is down.
The "threats" made to Buck speak for themselves (yet it seems all have showed up to salute Gruntboy, with just one coherent exception...) Unappreciated posters get banned sooner or later, it's their fate.

So, my leaving. Why?
Maybe the excessive flatness of the forum, after the decapitation of eccentric/interesting members?
Uhm, no, survivable.
Maybe the excessive political correctness needed, translated again in flatness?
No, I can bear it (or even appreciate it)
Maybe the (accidental?) political shift, determined by said decapitations (read the names again..)?
No, I don't really care about politics.

No, it's the... expedients. RL is enough to see people use their *little* expedients, carry their *little* hatreds, achieve their *little* victories. Such mechanisms make me sick. I always try to stay clear of them.
Gruntboy *flamed* me when I entered SYM the first time... I mailed him now and he replied very nicely.
A couple of PMs I sent to others - particularly one sent to smooth an unwanted friction- are, so far, unanswered.

Let people be judged by mods and "solert reporters". Let people win and lose. Let people count warnings.
And... let people go away when they get sick of it. As Waverly did I think. As I do, unnoticed as it may be.
Maybe for a while, maybe for good. A pity for the thread about Hard Determinism I was about to start :(
Maybe I'll post just in BG2 forums. Maybe this post will be "reported" and I'll be banned.

PS: if someone wants to contact me, I'll be happy of course :)

I think we're all upset at the moment, Littiz, but there's quite an exodus going on at the moment. In all honesty, I think it began before recent events happened but those recent events have really changed things for a lot of people.

Maybe just take a break but if you do go, good luck, Littiz (*shakes hands*)

Pretty much as usual, I disagree with you on most counts. I've never felt hampered by the rules of the board, even though I on occasion have had an almost irresistible urge to verbally tear someone to pieces. As soon as the fury resides, I can focus on debating the issue instead of attacking the person.

Still, it's sad that you feel that you need to leave GB. Hopefully you'll come back.

Btw, I still think that footballer, whatshisname, is more actor than player and that he performed "The death of a dandy" all over the place :)

Seeya Littiz.
You've made your choice and we all respect it. I'm not around much these days but it's still sad that you feel the need to leave GB, hopefully you'll still visit from time to time.

@Littiz, you will be missed, not least by me. I've always found your comments intelligent and interesting, and your passion and openess for life does you credit. I hope you'll change your mind and come back, but if you don't, brightest blessings go with you wherever your road takes you.

Sorry to see you go Littiz - even though we disagree on most things I really enjoy discussing with you, and I would have loved a Hard determinism-discussion about philosophy and science! I can't comment on your opinions of the recent events here since I have no idea what happened except the sad fact that Grunt was banned - I will do some backreading and see what I can figure out. In general though, my opinion is that nobody should be banned just for an occational use of swear-words, but if those swear-words are part of insulting or flaming another member, then it's really the personal attack that should lead to ban, not the swearing. However, this is easy for me to say, who live in a society where swearing is part of normal accepted language and it's not uncommon that you hear politicans, university teachers or other public speakers swear occationally. It's totally socially accepted here, but it is not in all societies, and this is an international message board.

Regarding temper...if you knew me personally Littiz, you'd perhaps be surprised to learn that I have a horrible temper. However, my anger is not so hot - rather cold...I ususally write good papers when I'm angry, for instance, and I enjoy working a lot with aggression as a driving force. So I think a bad temper can be very constructive, if one just find use for it.

However, I hope you just take a break and will return here some day...if not, I wish a good life and hope that you will use your intelligence and talents for good things.

Ciao and take care!

Littiz, my friend,

I am heart sick to see you leave. I hope against all hopes that you will reconsider. Please know that you will be terribly missed.

I understand well the points you have tried to express, as they are points I have tried to make myself. I am not surprised to find that we share these feelings, as you and I seem to be 'simpatico' in many things.

In seeing this post, I feel I am not only loosing your company, but also a comrade. Your clear thinking and balanced perspective are qualities that I admire. The fact that you are passionate about your convictions, and honest in their defence is a testiment to your bravery and integreity. You always state your position with skill and talent. This has earned you a place of respect here in SYM.

You have the soul of an artist, and a dark beauty that surounds you like a tune in minor keys. The person you have shared with us, ever willing to be open and vulnerable to his friends. This person I have come to know and enjoy. I cry at seeing you go.

*HUG*

Though I haven't known you here as long as others, I can commend your past efforts with helping inform others in a slew of threads (which I witnessed for almost a year before I registered) about some of the games featured on these boards, Littiz. Fairwell, happy hunting, etc.

A shame. We all never wish that stuff like this would happen. When it happens, it can hurt in some ways. Still, goodwill from myself and others, Littiz. Your efforts to this point will go down in GameBanshee history. *nods his fairwell*

Sorry I've been too harsh to "reporters"..
I only mean: a forum needs rules. Friends need (a bit of) complicity.

Thanx for your words, @all.
But hey, I don't like definitive goodbyes, for the same reason I dislike bannings. I'll have my break.
Take care :)
