Do you share exp with them or does it all go to you?

Neither really. They gain a level at the same time you do.

The game will(does it still?) adjust the amount of xp given out though, when using an henchman.

Yes, the more party members there are the less experience you get from a kill.

I've also noticed this when you're a solo spellcaster and you have a summoned creature. Hardly seems fair, I mean, it is your spell. You don't lose XP for killing with a magic missle or a fireball, why would you for a summoning spell?

It has something to do with the summon level too. For example if you enter a fight and summon a badger you will get more exp than if you did it solo.

Actually I've noticed the opposite, you get LESS XP, not more. As if you had a henchman. Is that what you meant to say?

Well I haven't played NWN nights, so a patch may have changed things. For example my lvl 7 cleric had the ability to summon a badger (the first level of summon I think level 1 spell). I remember the xp debate so I found something to kill in the docks district. When I killed it without my badger I would actually receive LESS experience than if the badger was summoned. It has to do with the way NWN (did, possiblty still does) determince XP. It is kinda based on the 3E rules where the party level comes into play with the XP. The problem with NWN is that it counts summons as party members. So when my cleric is lvl 7 and the badger is low lever (1-3 or something) my party level (not sure how NWN gets the party level, could be as simple as averaging the two, but I doubt it) will go down with the badger summoned. Thus I would get more exp for the kill because a "low level" party killed a higher level foe. I remember it being a cheap way to raise exp, if done right you could leave ch.1 about 3 levels ahead of classes w/o summon abilities.

Interesting. I'll have to experiment with that.

The way I see it though, I don't think a summon spell should affect XP at all. It's just the result of your spell, so in effect, it's still you.

summoning shouldn't effect XP and it doesn't in 3e. What NWN does is either a bug or programing unique to NWN.

whats the total number of party members?

From my experience (I'm still in chap 1) its one henchman and one summoned creature. Is this right?

I summoned the CUTEST little boar. He died. ::Sniff:

Yeah, that's right. The biggest party I've had was my character, my familiar, my summoned wolf, my henchman, and her summoned tiger. Total of 5, woo hoo!

Wait. Dray!? What? How can your henchman summon an animal, and how can you summon a familar? I'm so pathetically NEW.

Well I was a wizard, summon familiar is one of your special abilities... not a spell.

My henchman was a priestess, and cast summon animal IV, I believe.

Also if you are multiclassed into say a druid you can gain an extra ally via the Summon Companion ability :)
