The Maze Craze

I'm interested in trying different solo options for BG2, but one problem stands in my way: Maze. Everyone knows that if you're playing solo and you get mazed/charmed/domated etc. it's game over. Charm and domination are easy enough to gaurd against, but Maze is not. There are a couple of classes (Berserker and Barbarian) that have abilities which make them immune to all these game enders, but most other classes do not. What are some ways to prevent being mazed (besides high magic res.)?

Maze is idenitified as a Conjuration / Summoning spell, so theoretically for a mage 'Spell Immunity - Conjuration' should stop it, but I will have to test this. Also, 'Protection from Magic' scrolls prevent you from being mazed, but unfortunately these are few and far between. If you are being mazed by a lich or demi-lich, 'Protection from Undead' will do just fine. High magic resistance works, and, as you stated, some innates prevent it.

However, the best way to not be mazed is to simply attempt to interrupt the spell-caster. Take them out as quickly as possible, before they can start slinging maze and imprisonment spells at you. Of course, this is easier said than done...

Thufir's advise is excellent.

To add one more, my favorite method is to summon some cannon fodder. If you are a mage or bard, use the wand of monster summoning. Have your summons rush the baddie while you pelt from a distance. The baddie usually will maze one of your summons instead of you. This applies to the other offensive insta-kill spells as well, like petrification, finger of death, etc.

Summons are also handy for other spells, like protection from magical weapons. Many of the summons from the wand (like the ogres) do not use magical weapons. They can also whack on a mage until his stoneskin expires.

If the mage uses an area effect spell to nuke your summons, or just finishes them all off, use another charge on that wand & get some more.

One tactic I use on some of the baddie's that have a lot of help is have my summons attack the boss, while I take out his friends.

One warning though, summons that are mazed & imprisoned still count towards your maximum of 5 summons until the orginal summon expires. This can be a pain if you have 5 summons imprisoned.

ive never really had any problems with maze. my thief removes the traps and i havent met a caster i couldnt handle before they cast it. going to be hard later but thats what summons are for.

with mage/sorc (31 lvl sorc is unstopable) cast spell immunity: conjuration (it works) for maze and spell immunity: abjuraton against imprisonment
