Hi all,
I have encountered a problem. Earlier in the game, my fighter charcter challenged the guards at the gates and subsequently KILLED them both. They did not regenerate when I returned a few times later.
The Gates are now unguarded, and I can't figure out how to get in. The annoying thing, is that I HAVE the seal that I need to get in NOW, but there's no one to give it to.
I think I just spoiled the game for myself! Are there any other ways of getting in?
Thanks!
Maeve
SPOILER - Luskan Gates
I don't know if killing the guards will break the plot, but when you are "allowed" to get into Luskan there should be a Sergant spawned at the gates also.
But as I said, killing might have broken the plot. I don't now if the Sergant can be spawned in by some dm/console command (have never messed around with them.)
Otherwise .... all I can think of is having to go back to a save before you killed them.
Sorry.

Ah, that happened to you? I did that, as I didn't know about getting the seal, I thought the guys on the gate were carrying the key to the gates. I then went back, got the seal and set off for the gates with fingers crossed. I had to go right up to the gate, but the sargeant did respawn. Have you tried moving about either side of the gates? I would have thought trying to open them might have made him come out, but sometimes you have to "persuade" the game to do what you want.
Try opening chests with a Brown bear and Tomi in tow in a tiny room. Getting Tomi to do anything than say "I can open that easy" (or whatever it is) requires gentle shuffling around the chest for about five minutes....

Easy way to negotiate with ally-intensive characters is hotkeying the "stay put' and 'follow/attack nearest/guard me' buttons. That way you can just have everyone sit tight, then have Tomi follow and work the locks/traps. Also a handy way to avoid having your valuable summons/henchmen from running helter-skelter across trap-laiden passageways whenever a puny weak goblin throws a rock (which makes me doubt the 'intelligence' of the AI somewhat)
Ah, yes, I'll have to get used to doing that. I'm very nervous with a magic user though, my fighters are my cannon fodder who get hit beofre she does. If I don't keep them close, I tend to get killed within three strokes - the enemies slip round my henchment, then I'm in a tiny room being poked with a sharp sword.
Someone somewhere said "This game is too easy when you have the recall stone. They have never had the expereince of a character not being able to use it because they're being sliced up!

Plus the fact that Tomi and summounded creatures have a tendency to get "stuck" behind doors. The number of times I have negotiated a map almost to the end, run into a really exciting fight and then find that my two body guards are three miles behind is no longer funny. Even telling them to follow me doesn't work, Tomi shouts "Okey-Dokey" and then stays there. I end up yelling at the computer, "Well, DO IT then!".
I need to keep them close. Even changing tactics doesn't work

There is a small way around the 'first foot in the door' problem with casters, and that is you may want to consider taking the hide/silent skills.. I've been doing that with my necromancer and (in combination with a cloak/boots of elvenkind and Cats Grace) it has worked quite well. Just turn on stealth and walk in and hope you pass your checks (better than walking in first and KNOWING you're on the menu first)
As for the henchmen-behind-the-door problem, there is a way to fix that, and that is close the door, and reopen it (standing on the side of the door your henchmen are on). This should open the door the opposite way and let them through.

Ah, thank you for that, I will try both. I need something to remind me though, I often leave them behind and go rushing off - well, it's to get back at them when I'm out of spells with two hit points left, and they decide there's just ONE more monster they want to kill before we have a rest, and go haring off into the darkness. Oh, I know they keep running back to make sure I'm still there or something, and that just brings me to the attention of the extremely powerful monster that's chasing them. 400 gold pieces anyone? Or where did I put that healing potion?
Someoen said the black panther was great for stealth. So I did Wild Shape and "stealthed" into a dire spider lair, only to get poisoned and generally torn apart when it spotted me. Do you have to creep round the walls or something?
