What softwar do you use? I'm currently inbetween two versions of Winamp (v.2 and v.3), version 3 seems to have alot of extra details but seems to be harder to manage....
Therefore I'd like to know what you use?

You may want to go back and add RealOne Player to your list. It's extremely popular, and a lot of people use it to play MP3 tracks, etc. But it's up to you.

Winamp v2.76 Lite. I haven't bothered to upgrade because I haven't had any problems with the version I'm using now, and I did have some problems with a later version (v2.80, I think).

Eh, RealOne is too bloated for my tastes. That, and it also tends to want to turn any computer it is on into an outpost of the RealOne Empire of Evil (TM). Changing file associations without asking, and constantly trying to make the RealOne website your home page. So yeah...
WinAmp3 is good but like RealOne it is a bit too bloated, but it is delightfully nowhere near as pushy. But if suffers from the old, "Lets make this automatic so that the user doesn't have to think! Everyone knows she/he's just a stupid monkey! Oh yeah! And lets take off the option that is automatic so that the user is boned if he isn't a monkey and wants something different!

" syndrome.
So I use good ol' WinAmp2. It's small, reliable, has all the features I want it to have. None that I don't. It is easy to manage and control, and best of all it uses the minimum of autonomy so you don't have to worry about anything being sneaky and accidently ruining your entire system.

The only reason I upgraded from Winamp2 to 3 is the cross fading effect between songs, I just like the way it sounds.

Windows Media Player, Real One, and Music Match Jukebox( nice for ripping) are all fine but Winamp just seems to make better use of my speakers.

I use Winamp 3. There was some specific reasons I upgraded, but I don't remember now what it was. I however like the crossfading when I listen to techno/dance, and I also like that you can make it transparent on your desktop. However, I have heard other people say that 2.92 is the best version of Winamp.

Tried Winamp 3, dumped it because it was using way too much memory for a media player.

Thankfully the winamp site still allowed the ability to downgrade and I'm on version 2.81.

You mean, as compared to the virginal reticence of Microsoft and its Media Player?

I have Winamp 3 installed, because I had to reinstall Windows etc when I got home from Oz, so I just downloaded the most recent version. I rarely use it though, since I'm usually listening to CDs on my stereo.

My brother and I tend to listen to music CDs on his computer's Windows Media Player, and our favorite tunes are so metalliciously lovely to listen to in such cases. Oh, the joy of it!

I use windows media player - file organization is easiest to manage IMHO. I have over 5500 songs - so ease of management is a big consideration.
For ripping I use Musicmatch - That way I can access my mp3s on any one of my LAN PCs. Windows media player has that damn license crap...

I use CDex to rip as well and I now use Winamp 3 for playing music..... Might revert back to winamp2 though as I miss some of the ease of which it worked...
