Ok, I think that above all mods this is the one mad that is the most helpfull, I mean really, what's the point in Fighting all kinds of goblins and golems, it gets annoying, and very BORING! Ok I'm done ranting, I suggest you all grab it from here. If you havent yet.

I'd like to suggest that you, in the future, link to a description page instead of a .zip file.

I, personally, hate to download zips if I don't know whats in them, and for modem users its got to be even worse.

Fisrt of all, i agrea with you, this is a great MOD.

Second im going to save fable some time and say that you cant promote mods in the treads. Go to the sticky at the top of the page, wich deals with these things.

But it is a great mod and a good way to gain extra items and xp

As da man says. ;) Put your basic promotional info, description and link in the sticky at the top of the page meant for that purpose. (And yes, I've used Dungeon Be Gone, and it's a great resource to those of us who are BG2-obsessive!)

quick question...if you use dungeon be-gone do you lose out on the helm of balduran and other items, as well as all the experience and journal entries?

Posted: Mon Aug 25, 2003 2:28 pm
by Shin Jaon
No you get all the items, some i didn't even know about, lol. All the exp and little extra cash. Journal entries, um, I didn't notice, they might. I don't pay attention to my journal untill I start "questing". I guess it did seem like I was promoting it, I didn't make it, had no part in it at all to say the least. I was just letting other people know about the things out there.

This mod is far better than I thought it would be... From your description, I thought it got rid of all dungeons, not Irenicus's alone. Thanks for the link :D

Yeah, thats what I thought....
and BTW I'm a modem user to
Well, I'm not. I said "for modem users its got to be even worse", not "Its really bad for us modem users". My fault, sorry - I wasn't clear.

You don't get the journal entries.

And as far as skipping other dungeons is concerned, you'd be surprised what kind of requests we've seen... but no, DBG just gets you out of the Irenicus start dungeon.

A minor note:

DBG is really great unless you have Tactics with improved Ilyich & friends. Who could miss that?

I always hated Chateau Irenicus untill I installed tactics....

Improved Ilyich (requires ToB)
\------
The Improved Ilyich component makes the first dungeon much more
difficult. It was written by Lesley Reimer. The classic introduction is
as follows:

As I played through the Irenicus dungeon for the nth plus one time, I
remarked for the nth plus one time that Irenicus has some singularly
bad help down there. And while Bioware wanted players to be able to get
comfortable with the game, I have no such compunction.

Irenicus is, by all accounts, a master planner and a mage among mages,
with resources enough to build a vast underground empire, with a pocket
Plane of Air, all undetected by the Cowled Wizards. I find the notion
that he hires incompetents offensive.

What galled me most was the fact that Ilyich is guarding nymph acorns,
which are essentially an artifact-level treasure. It seemed implausible
that he would not take greater precautions to protect them.

So I have added a few extra guardians and improved his own combat
abilities modestly, to befit the trusted servant of an archmage and one
who would wish to keep his aforementioned artifact. It should be a
manageable challenge to an experienced BG2 player.

It is important to note that the Ilyich mod is a PARODY that is amazingly
difficult. Check out HINTS-Ilyich.txt for more information and make sure
you are up to the challenge before installing. Really, some elements of
the mod may not make sense to you (e.g., why Ilyich thinks the arcons are
hot stuff) unless you read up on the background.

.
So essentially, what it means by "a few extra guardians" above is that the Improved bugger has an evil planetar and a golem or two that can leave you buggered, figuratively speaking. Reloading is the norm rather than the exception.

Have fun!

I find the notionthat he hires incompetents offensive.
I find the notion that someone is calling Ilyich incompetent offensive! No, he may not be uber-powerful (In fact, he's not!) but he is by no mean incompetent. He might be weak... But lets not forget that the player characters are above-and-beyond "normal" challengers. They've fought their way through hundreds of monsters and uglies in BG1, so they are bound to be stronger than the average bear. I'd also like to remind everyone that the average person (A villager or what have you) is a level one char, and that the mayor of a village might be level two or three. This means that our chars are reasonably "competent" themselves, and it would take a great deal of skill to defeat them...

Of course, I do agree that Illyich is too easy, I just don't think calling him incompetent is fair.

Ron, that introduction is taken a little out of context. I wrote it as a gag last year, purporting that it came from "Lesley Reimer." I put on my best exaggerated Wes Weimer shoes and wrote up how I felt he would deal with the "problem" of Ilyich being so easy to dispatch.

So, it's a joke. Don't get all worked up. :)
