Portal Gem? (SPOILER)

What is the actual use of this gem, I decided to keep it so i had a nice little argument with a few deaths. So what now really? What can I do with it?

From the theatrical troupe, right? That's the gem that will allow them to leave Baldur's Gate, but ends up sucking them into a prison dimension. You and your party have the option of going in after them, and although there are some pretty decent fights (on the higher difficulty levels, at any rate), there's some good booty to be found, too.

One point to remember about the BG games: their quest options usually offer far greater rewards for being "lawful good." (The paths through hell are another matter.) If you want rewards that are relatively even whether you choose paths that are morally positive or damaging, consider the Fallout/Arcanum series. ;)
