Drinking Red Wine - it's not just for fun anymore

Recent work published in the journal Nature indicate that drinking red wine (preferrably from Chile, Spain, Argentina (they make wine?) and Australia) can extend life span in model organisms (yeast, flies and worms) and may extend lifespan in humans.
A major advance over past studies is the identification of which component may have these effects. Turns out to be resveratrol (a polyphenol) and so a refined version of this natural compound could be generated to possibly influence human aging. Obviously more studies need to be done. It is proposed that resveratol may act in part to prevent cell death and allow older cells more time to repair damage to their DNA. Interestingly, resveratrol is thought to be generated in grapes as a stress response to harsh conditions (drought) and so it kind of makes sense that it can act in a preservative manner.
