The best mods for BG2 ?

Ok, this subject might be overdone, but Ive tried researching this and I end up going over thread after thread and its all too much to look over, and as Im a newbee please allow me some leaway. Ive played through BG1 and BG2 when they first came out, then I put them away for a year or so. Now Ive decided to go back give em another go. Well I was looking for walkthroughs and strategies recently when I came across the wonderful world of mods and I thought cool. Anyway after looking into it a little I found out there are plenty of mods to be had, but being realistic these games are quite time consuming and as much as I would like to play them all I havent the time, and as I understand, not all of them work nicely with each other. So I was hoping (in my long winded way) to get a little input from others on which ones to try.

I highly recommend The Darkest Day by bgteam, its very good and includes a lot of new quests, weapons, chars and classes, so I consider it probably the most in depth mod. Takes a while to download, and had some glitches to it last I played, but that was a while ago.

Oh I probably should mention that I tried the Dark Side of the Sword Coast for BG1 but I was somewhat disappointed with that one, not taking away anything from the peeps who worked on it Im sure they did the best they could with what they had. It just seamed to throw off the balance of the remainder of the game. Also had an unfinished feel to it.

Personally, I like BGTrilogy the most... But its not compatable with a lot of stuff, so it may not be the best thing for you (plus the sucker is huge!

Is BGTrilogy a mod for BG1 or 2?

If this is going to be a discussion of BG1, I'll move it over to that forum to get more replies. If it's going to be about BG2 mods, I'll keep it here. Harbinger, you need to decide which you want. It can't be both. :)

Harbinger!

If you love a challenge, you must really try Weimer's mods. You can find them in a Google search or the Crossroads sticky link in this forum.

Loads of fun and challenge. :)

BGT is a mod that lets you play baldur's gate 1 in the baldur's gate II engine, with such features as Half-orcs, kits, and new classes intact. And lets not forget the increased walking speed, hitting "tab" to highlight chests, and a resolution that makes sense with todays computers!

edit:

And it is semi-compatable with most weidu mods, as well. ( http://WWW.weidu.org I belive ) I'm running with ascension, flirtpacks, ease-of-use, oversite and I think another mod... Unfortunatly, it seems to be redemtion-incompatable, which sucks, but I'll live.

Remember that many mods are listed under the BG Reference Crossroads, at the top of the topics page.

I actually used E-mule... If you want, D/L it from http://www.emule-project.net/

After installing it, copy and paste the links below into your browser's address bar, and it will start the D/L for you:

Hey Ron

I started downloading BGT from Emule this afternoon, but it looks like this is going to take a very long time. Only 2 of the nine have been located and the mark ii is going to take 2 days of download time. Ugh!..

Okay, since this is about BG1, now, moving the thread over there. :)

Thats at least half my fault for not being able to run the whole time, but...

I'll try to leave my computer on - everthing except the .uha file should be getable fairly readily then. I'd like to suggest you hit all those links again if you would - that way, I *think* you'll start to recognise me and my cable connection (Please tell me you have cable -- otherwise, as I love telling my dad "Our cable does me no good if the other guy doesn't have cable access")

Yes, I do have a cable connection, so far I have a little over 100Mb of mark ii. When I try hitting them again it gives me an already doenloading message.

Unfortunatly, I can't leave my computer on all the time, but when it is on I am connected... Good luck!

Hey Ron

Ok Im almost there I have all the files you posted except the readme file which may be the most important one if Im ever going to get this beast installed. No one seems to have that one. Am I right in assuming that all the earlier patches are incorporated in the mark ii file? Also I heard the markiii should be on Emule soon. Should I just wait for that one? Any advantages in waitng? Sorry for all the questions.

Waiting for the Mark III may be a good idea - IIRC, its supposed to have both a (slightly!) reduced overall size because it incorporates all the prior patches, plus it grabs as many files as possible from a BG1 installation, and it also has an "Imporved installer".

If I were you, I'd wait to get the Mark III (sorry!) but keep the stuff I already had...
