Rest to Crash

I have been taunted by crashes playing BG2 past few days. I eventually uninstall, deleted everything except saved games (and I mean "everything". Not even holders left), ran defrag, and even downloaded DirectX. It solved other problems I had before (nothing to do with rest, but lots of crashes to desktop) at last, but now I can't rest.
I have checked old threads and found a few of them with similar problem, but none seems to give any proper solutions and they are mostly pre-ToB trouble. It's either "crash when you sleep inside -> go outside to sleep" or, "crash when you sleep outside -> go somewhere inside to sleep".
I have ToB + patches, and have Baldurdash patches installed, and am using Win 98se.
