Big Erich

Any tips on defeating Big Erich in Bloodmoon? Or perhaps how to get the key to his room so I can let the girl out? I'm very new to Morrowind and it's expansions, so any advice would be appreciated to defeating guys like this! I've defeated people before but this guy takes me apart in two or three blows... so mean...

Levitation might be the key. Shoot arrows at him from above. I don't know much about Bloodmoon though, i have yet to start with it. But my character is of such a high level, that it will probably be Big Eric who'll die in two or three blows, i'm not worried about him. :D

I just picked the lock, made self and her invisible (2 items+spel x 40% chameleon, although, IMHO, invisibility would do as well on this occasion) and led her out. The most hard part was to get her to the fort alive, though, the surrounding environment wasn't that friendly, and the behavior of the people you have to escort always is making me mad. However, if you had taken care to clean the way just before the events leaving all the corpses laying, that might help.
The second time i spoke with Erik he was wild with anger (IMO, he liked the girl very much) and the fight was unavoidable altogether. There was a key on his body what let me think that there's another way. However, since i was a nightblade ... :D my Sparkling Blade did a short work, i had just to blow very fast and often, he even never hit me once (in fact he never had a chance to up his hand). The Shock Damage is great effect even in small doses ;)

Yep, i've met that Eric dude, and it was exactly like i thought it would be. He died after three strikes. :D

In fact you are not supposed to be here before at least 40-50 (depending on your development tacticks and atrategy) level. However, last time i was here my PC was about 20 and survived that fight.
There's the little drawback if one comes here too early, in fact two:
1) opponent's equipment and chests contents are not so good, and there are some places they do not respawn (so there's a cave the skeleton bersekers use huntsman axes and spears instead of nordic silver claymores and longswords);
2) when you're done here the main continent is going to be far less challenging.
So have patience and go here rather late (you may wish to do some lighter quests altogether).
The one more hint: low level character has no chance to survive travelling Solstheim if he cannot fly. From the other side there are neither flying creatures nor air defences (save some archers among the people camping on the beaches).

Except for those little gnomes that ride on boars. When i levitate, and fire on them from the sky with my bow, they use some kind of magic, that sucks the health right out of my body. When you're dealing with a whole bunch of them, you better have some exquisite restore health potions on you.

If however, you wait until level 60+, the respawn in the woods gets so bad that even higher-end computers start dragging - so be warned!

One downside of the Morrowind in my opinion. Every goddamn critter wants a piece of you. *sigh* I miss those squirrels and deers from BG2, and occasional beast to kill. :D

Ps. I prefer axe, and prefrontal lobotomy to Erich. :p

Well, there ARE wandering non-hostile critters - the netches and some of the guar. Remember BG1? There were plenty of wolves and bears wanting a piece of you, too. I've been playing BG2 again, and found myself wishing for more "normal" critters like that, instead of dungeons full of wierd monsters like beholders and what not. BM is definitely a refreshing change. Now if they could tone down the respawn...

True. It kills the feeling, no matter what level character, like "*yikes* frysehag and 7 wolves. I´m deep trouble now."
Instead, "*hohum....let´s see, I gotta get there. And I see....
hmmmm. 3 frysehags, 5 berserkers, zillion wolves, trillion bears. Hope I have enough hammers to repair my weapons."
That´s why I use stealth and invisibility a lot, when moving through Solstheim.

Same here. :) I just love Critical Strike! Though being the avid soul-trapper I am, I've been finding Solstheim a soul-trapping bonanza (for the mid-level gems).

Don´t mean to flatten your hopes, but Bloodmoon is intended to fairly high-level characters, and later Erich the Unworthy will be a piece of cake. Personally, I taunted him attacking, since I did not know what rest of the Thirsk would think if I axed him right away.
Then I just ripped him apart with bare hands. :D

Btw. Sojourner. Does the Soultrap work also in area effect?
Like making one Megaspell with combined Soultrap+Elemental damage, so I can blast whole wolfpack and trap their souls with one spell? :D :p

As far as I know, Soultrap DOES work on area. However, you might have trouble making a legal spell/item with damage and range high enough.

BTW, try using the editor! I made a bow that eradicates a whole town in one blow; -100% fire res, 100 fire dam in 500ft for 100 seconds.... that burns every person in Caldera to cinders.
I'm just about to try a mega-soultrap-spell, I'll tell you if it worked.

Well with potions to pump my Intelligence to....oh lets say 300 000 000 plus, no spell is too difficult. :D Don´t know about combo spells, but need to test it. :p

One of my first and favorite combo is soultrap for 2 secs + absorb health, all in 15 (later in 25 and 50) ft. The amount of the absorbation starts at 20-30 and goes up in new modifications with Mysticism growth. (30 is quite enough for Ancestral Ghosts) It not allways get the job done at once, altogether it does damage and may be recast at need (developing one's Mysticism by the way). Moreower, it works through doors and walls, so it's wery effective, say, on level 5 in tombs inhabited with those deadly (for a PC of that level) skeleton archers (nice souls and arrows, it's shame they disappear later). Enter in the tomb nerest to Balmora and hunt even without opening the door until you run out of Magicka ... :) 50ft might be exactly all the tomb :D
