how do you solve it?

i have asked the tanner and then the working girl who recognised the substance used in tanner and then i confronted the tanner but that was not enough evidence, what else do i need to do to prove the tanner was the murderer

You might not like it, but the only way i could do it was to attack the skinner. then you kill all his little bodygaurds, go upstairs...
...oops almost went too far

figure it out from there.

Speak to the hooker, merchant, and beggar there are north of the inn. You'll have to move some items back and forth among 'em. Eventually, you'll have enough information to confront the tanner. *Don't* return to the officer with your suspicions, since he'll go to investigate the matter himself, and end up dying on you. Deal with things yourself.

THis is a more detailed description of what to do:
First go to Rose, on merchants square near the five flagons inn. follow her conversation and get her to tell you about the murder. She will say she smelt something like (mulder?)berries on the scene. Go to the merchant near to her (with a name) and ask him what smells like (mulder?)berries. He will give you 3 items that smell like them, one being an ingredient of tannin. Take them to Rose and she will say she smelt the tannin stuff. Now, go north a little, to the archway (not the broken one) and find the beggar called 'Rampah' (please forgive me if any names are wrong). Talk to him and ask him about it. He will say he found something on the scene and ask money for it (100 first i think)say no you can't afford for each price and he will give it to you for free and also offer you a rat-on-a-stick. Take the hide to the merchant you saw earlier and ask him about the hide. He will say it is elephant hide, only used by the tanner. Another little quest to do with this is: the soldier you first meets says to see faraji as he seems to know something. This boy is standing near the temple of helm. Talk to him, ask him about the murder and he will acuse Mrs. Cragmoon, saying she is a witch.Go see her at the derelict house, talk for a while and she will (if you pushed the right buttons) tell you she is a caster, and offer to sell potions. Now, if you go to the soldier and tell him she is a caster she will disappear (she has been taken away). Some time later, a group of 'adventurers' will appear, with Dunbar the fifth and another named one. They will attack you. Kill them for a little bit of xp then loot them and find a note from Cragmoon warning them about you. I have found nothing else about this. The note mentions that she will 'make her escape tonight', so i went to the prison-noone home, and when i got to spellhold later on she wasn't there either, so tell e if you find anything.

Turning in Cragmoon and killing her friends seemed a bit Evil to me... After all, if someone turned in Imoen for being a Mage, I'd go after them as well. :D

it is only a part of the bene gesserit litany against fear. the complete one is as follows:

I will not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

That's fine, @Dottie, but would you mine declaiming against fear down in SYM? This area is for discussions relating to SoA, and Buck wants to keep it that way. Thanks. :)

For the rest, I've never been able to resurrect any character within SoA who isn't a member of my party at the time. Of course, you do get the opportunity to resurrect Saverok in ToB, but that's a special case.

sorry :o

anyway, you dont ressurect the captain, you just return him to his superiors and they tell you they are going to get him ressurected. it possible that they just lie to you but not very likly i would say :)
