Armor Mage Can Wear?
is there any armor that a mage can wear...to make them look more fighterish than magi?....like i was thinking bladesinger?..will that work...thanx for the help
I do not fear death, just a painful one
bladesinger is bard only i believe.
single class mages have no armor.
Thief/mages can wear thief armor (or whatever with UAI) but it hinders their spell casting. Elven chain does not hinder casting but hinders thief abilities. The only armor that a mage thief can wear without hindrance is JAns Adventure wear (Jan only) and it doesnt change his look (changes the color of his belt pouch). Sorry.
Fighter Mages and cleric mages can wear elven chain without hindrance, but im guessing your playing a single class mage and all this is pointless.

Have you ever heard any more inspiring or logical words? I sure haven't.

Not true, a Fighter/Mage can wear this too, a Mage/Thief I wouldn't know, I gave it to my Fighter/Mage and had Caspenar upgrade it, togehter with the cloack of mirroring this is an awesome combination.
If you have a single class Mage I'd prefer the Robe of Vecna, this sets your AC to 5, gives 5% Magic Resistance and let you cast your spells a lot quicker.
Hope this helps a little

Yeah, various suits of Elven Chainmail are good for Fighter/Mages and Cleric/Mages (especially Aerie and/or Solafein). However, I would suggest that you:
1) Not have Thief/Mages wear such, since Elven Chain has penalties for thieving skills. Go for a Robe of (Good, Neutral, or Evil) Archmagi. Those have a significant bonus to Armor Class (about as much as chain mail, IIRC), a hint of Magic Resistance, and a small bonus to saving throws. The thing is that a mage's alignment determines which robe he can wear (though the bonuses are the same). The Robe of Vecna, as knarf mentioned, is another option, since it does increase the wearer's casting speed (making spells be cast faster).
2) Have the individual wearing Elven Chain also wear a Girdle of Bluntness. Since chain mail of any type makes you take extra damage from blunt attacks, and there are many enemies that do such damage, it may make survival of the wearer even more possible.
Also, the suits of chainmail for bards are the Melodic Chain and Jester's Chain.

I'll keep this real short as its been discussed on these boards before. You will need something like Infinity Engine Editor Pro (IEEP) from the TeamBG folks (http://www.teambg.com). To keep it really simple just use ShadowKeeper to extract existing items in the game and modify them. When you extract the item it will be placed in your BG2 Override folder. Make a note of the file name of the armor you want to modify. Now with IEEP, chose the Item Maker function, open the item file you previously extracted and modify it to remove the restrictions on which character classes can use it and also modify the part that inactivates spell casting when worn. IEEP comes with instructions and you can also download the Tutorials from TeamBG (highly recommended). Infinity Explorer is another program you can use to extract item files but I prefer SK with its nice filters. Good luck.

I don't like cheating so I hate using ShadowKeeper. The best weapon for a mage in the whole game is the Robe of Vecna. The robe sets your AC base to 5, gives you an added 10% MR, and improves casting by 4. You can get it off one of the bonus merchants in the Adventure's Mart.
Another great armour of a mage but you need Throne of Bhaal is the Aslyferund Elven Chain. You have to collect the Bladesinger chain and bring it to Cespanar and he will make it for you if you also have a scroll of protection from normal weapons.

how to wear any armor and still cast spells...
you need two things in your affects file, using shadowkeeper...use any item, and immunity to disable spell casting...
these two lines will allow a mage to wear any armor in the game, and still cast mage spells....
use any item...

145 is Disable Spell Casting Abilities
your avatar won't show the paper doll for the armor correctly, unless your avatar is fighter, rather than the mage avatar, but you will get all the bonuses and abilities of the armor, while you can still cast mage spells...
an interesting side note is that if you cast tensor's transformation, you can still cast spells...

yes...
the easy way is to copy an affect, like from another npc or whatever, and deleting all parameters except the ones i specifically listed...make sure any parameters, other than the ones i specifically listed are BLANK...
then copy and paste from this web page...you need to enter the parameters EXACTLY, like the correct number of zeros...
a second interesting side effect is your mage can now wear armors like the corthahena family armor, and other unique to npc armor made by item upgrade and other item mods...
oh and you can use katanas, war hammers and flails..
