Since this is my first game using a mage as my main character, I got one of my apprentices killed during the creation of the ring of protection.
I am now trying to get them to make a ring of wizardry, but it keeps failing! Larz is dead, do the two others stand a chance of making it without him?
Because I really, really want that ring.
Ring of Wizardry - help!
I think all of them must be alive to succeed with the ring. However, there is another way to get that ring:
If Jaheira is in your party and you are ordered to the Harper Hold where Galavarey and his friends try to kill you because you're a Bhaalspawn, one of them has a Ring of Wizadry. To get really lots of spells equip your Mage with both of them

There are three kinds of people that no one understands: geniuses, madmen and guys that mumble.

From Dan Simpson's walkthrough...
SPOILERS:
"When they make the Ring of Protection, Larz gets vaporized (whether they succeed in making the ring or not)."
[...]
"The Ring of Wizardry requires that all Apprenti be alive, and it will kill Nara and Larz to make it."
So basically, you cannot make both the Ring of Protection and the Ring of Wizardry. Plus, you get more XP for keeping all of the apprentices alive.
