Death of a Taxman (spoiler request)
Well, it's easy to find the murderer, so far all is fine. Now you're making the decision - to kill him and get 500 drakes or to trust him and keep you knowledge for yourself (the ring to return to Thavere Vedrano you're going to get anyway). I've chosen the second and am just curious if there's some follow-on. The record just keeps staying in the diary, so the quest is unfinished, and i see no hint how to close it. Gilnith has no more dialog options, even "the murder of Procesus Vitellius" has disappeared after the decision has been made, so i cannot ever to re-decide. However, i guess the choice there would be left for some reason and there some solution might be supposed.
TIA,
L.

So you whant to know if you can reopen the topic?
Why don't you just taunt him into attacking you and kill him then talk to the guy in the census office other than that I'm not sure if you can

Well, it's the suggestion from the Census man, he's waiting when i'd bring the murderer to justice (to death in his reasoning). Altogether it's just boring from one side and do not agree with my current character and decision he has made from the other. Also the topic in diary lets me hope there might be another solution. And why did they let me choose if the ending was going to be the same anyway? (In Bloodmoon in simmilar situation there were two solutions, for example).

Now, I did this a while ago, but I remember I chose the second option because I didn't have a good weapon on hand (I was a total newbie to Morrowind). But the thing was I was such a new character, that 500 gold was really a lot of money to me--- so I decided to go back to the murderer. I didn't even know about the taunt-bribe method, so I just attacked him... and there's nobody around to see you do it, so it doesn't matter! Then you can get the gold, give the ring to what's-her-face and be happy!

Let's see the RP reasoning of my PC.
First, killing Gilnith won't bring Processus back. They both have been with bare hands, and Gilnith hasn't robbed Processus. Altogether Thavere Vedrano has mentioned that Processus has been really cross with Foryn Gilnith. It seems it has been the fair fight, and nobody knows who's been the beginer. Gilnith might kill Processus just in self-defense. I'm not the judge to make a veredict on so narrow ground. The Census official has never cared about the justice, he just wants to give a lesson, and he ever has never cared who the murderer really is. It lets me suspect that the Census is just another criminal gang, not much bettter than Cammona Tong (and definitely worse than Thieves Guild).
From the other side, following my rules and just on occasion i run into Processus body when i was already able to tie Gilnith in knot and put into the hands of Socucius Ergalla with bare hands. I had money, not too much, altogether i was able to live without those 500 drakes. What's more important, my char. had rules of his own (just the agreement with me when i started to play him

). One of the rules is not to kill humans or elves unprovocated. It means my char. isn't going to attack either elf or human who isn't attacking him if there's not another serious reason (the writ, for example). He's also the kind of character avoiding killings as far it is possible (those Rangers, you know

). So it is absolutely out of question to return and kill him after he was allowed to live.
Altogether as a mentor and superseer of my hero i'm slightly disappointed that there's no follow-up for the ungreedy choice he had made and i was proud with.

Well, i'm keeping a rule to not allow the money or items to play a significant role my affairs with NPC. Just trying to RP ungreedy chars, you know

And there are tonns of ways to earn money without murdering people. Of course, as soon you're in Morrowind you've agreed to kill, but to change the line of behavior just because of money ...
