I've gotten Mona's crystal ball and she won't talk to me so I can't complete the quest. did I screw up by freeing Serena before I got the crystal ball?

no, it is a bug in the game, and quite a big one as it blocks 2 or 3 other quests. You still can complete the game though (so I'm told, I haven't yet)

Basically if you do certain things in the right order you can complete the quest, do it differently then you can't. There is an unofficial patch that should fix the problem, along with others. I'm holding out on it as I don't know what it will do to the official patch whenever they get it out.

Search this forumn for that unofficial patch.

the unofficial patch by circle of 8 doesn't solve this particular problem. I have installed the patch and I still have the problem with Mona and her orb. If you want to install the patch anyway, there is an uninstall for it that you can use later.
