Malak's Face (Minor Spoiler)

During a cutscene later in the game, Malak is seen without his metal mask, revealing that he in fact has no jaw and his voice is produced from a speaker. During some of the vison/flashbacks showing Revan and Malak finding the starmaps Malak is seen with a complete face, so he lost his jaw sometime after becoming a dark lord. Just wondering if anyone knows how this happened and or if it is revealed at some point in the game?

No it doesn't tell u but i've noticed that all the big names in dark lords except Revan (all hail lord Revan) have some kind of nasty deformity like, no working lungs or... no face... or freaky yellow eyes and pulsating blackish veins around the forehead ( I never said Revan had no deformities but those are just cool (All hail lord Revan) )

well being a servant of the dark side, while awesome and immensly fun, the dark side of the force causes a body to deteriorate very quickly. but, it would not inflict a wound like that of Malak's. for example, darth sidious/chancellor palpatine begins to grow pale and "feeble" the more evil he becomes, while his force powers grow. this is an example of the dark side of the force causing the body to deteriorate. but the wounds of Darth Vader (metal arms, etc.) and that of Malak, are from battle, and while we know that Vader was nearly killed in his battle with Obi-Wan that will take place in EP3, Malak's missing jaw is never explained in KOTOR, but you can be sure it was in battle, they just felt they didnt need to explain it. the dark side isnt like leprocy, parts dont just fall off!

Perhaps Revan wasn't distorted because he wasn't really evil. He fell to the dark side, sure, but his core was not evil, but maybe it wasn't good either. That may be why he wasn't deformed. Or maybe because nobody wants to play a deformed character. But to give the emperor his due, his was really old by Return of the Jedi. He was already old when he became chancellor, and Return of the Jedi happened some 30 years later. He apparently, was a sith from a very young age, and he was not that much more powerful in Return of the Jedi than he was in Episode 1 or 2. And Count Dooku wasn't deformed either.

The physical damage done by the Dark Side is adequately shown as you follow that path by the Palpatine-like decay and discolored pupils in your portrait. As to the deformities, Darth Maul was in exceptional condition in Ep. 1(Hell, he was the only saving grace of the whole fiasco), and none of the books that have been written have mentioned Dark Lords having deformites or losses of anatomy. The only other I can think of was one of the Dark Jedi You face in Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight named Maw. He had been cut in half in the opening scene. He not only kept himself alive through the Dark Side of the Force, but levitated himself as well. Still hilarious to see him floating up to you with bandages holding his guts in.

The notion that the Dark Side causes frailty is absurd. For one the dark side represents power, how could you call yourself powerfull if your body is weak.
Second of all the Dark Sied would not seem so attractive if you knew that if you practised the dark side of the force your body would go to waste. have you ever considered that emperor palpatine looks weak cos he is an old bastard, i mean its not like the force will keep him young and fit.

One could view it that the dark side is SO powerful that the mere frail human form cannot contain the raw power that the dark side users channel... I know looking THAT bad would be a serious detracting point for me... what good is being evil if you have to look so hideous?

That's actually kind of the view that Star Wars stuff takes. Basically, anyone who uses the Dark Side intensively gets deformed (see Courtship of Princess Leia and the force witches within). Also, use of too much dark side energy does weaken the body- the Emporer really is that weak, and not because of age, as he has a tendency to switch bodies (see Dark Empire, Dark Empire II, and Empire's End comic series).
It should be noted that all kinds of Sith lords have a tendency to remove their spirits from their bodies at death- Exar Kun is one (show up about 7 years post-Endor). In Jedi Knight:Jedi Acamdey, Marka Ragnos is another one. So the Emporer's power to remove himself from his body isn't unique, just his ability to transfer to other bodies.
Regardless, the Dark Side probably wouldn't be able to destroy someone's face like that. It's probably a battle wound.
