Paladins a Pain ?

I have a Paladin in my party, and at level 5 he is starting to get well hard. However, there are several quests that I just cant do without him becoming fallen. The drinking competition for one, even if someone else does the drinking, he still gets fallen.
More seriously when I complete the first mission for the earth temple, he also becomes fallen. After a quick flick through the walkthrough (and trying not to spoil for you peeps), not doing at least some of the temple quests doesnt seem too clever an idea.
Can I trash all the temples and still finish, or is something wierd requiring the mythical patch happening ?

That's a good question, maybe fable the moderator can help u. Aside from that, to have a paladin in the game Unfortunately means that ur whole party is a goody toshoes. So remember that when doing quests. If ur paladin does become fallen. im sure there are ways to restore him in the game but I havent fallen yet with my paladin so I dont know.

Paladins
Paladins can redeem by giving Terjon at the temple of St Cuthbert 9000 gold.
I figured my Barbarian was enough of a bastard to not care about the Paladin's rights so he entered the drinking contest anyway.
Anyhow, the first time I won it I didn't complete any of the temple quests, which just means that you didn't complete any of the temple quests.
Instead I killed all the priests because they were evil, courtesy of Detect Evil at will.

I have a paladin.9th level.Haven't used his abilities much other than as a fighter. All of my pc's have a red courage arrows over the portraits except the paladin?Maybe the 2nd game will have enough levels to make paladins powers more usefull?

Those red arrows are from the Paladin's Aura of Courage ability. The Paladin has an innate immunity to fear at that point, and the icons for the effect are only on the others because that could possibly be considered the affect within the outside area. In other words, the Paladin is the generating source of that aura, and the others within range feel it as a buffing status. Sound like a good description?

I would like to think you're correct.I use paladins in most rpg partys, but prefere to have a second figther such as ranger or barbarian then cleric, thief, mage classes. Thanks

Just thought I'd briefly list the abilities that the Paladin class gains at certain levels, as per the manual.
Level 1: Aura of Good (A bit hard to explain, honestly), Detect Evil, Smite evil once per day (adds Charisma modifier to attack roll, and 1 extra point of damage per level if they strike an evil target)
Level 2: Divine Grace (Charisma modifier adds to saving throws), Lay on Hands (Charisma modifier heals a certain number of health points once per day.
Level 3: Aura of Courage (which I explained before), Divine Health (Paladin is immune to magical and natural disease)
Level 4: Turn Undead (rather self-explanitory, correct?), 1st-level spell-casting
Level 5: Smite Evil twice per day
Level 6: Remove disease once per day (though the manual says once per week)
Level 7: N/A
Level 8: 2nd Level spell-casting
Level 9: Remove Disease twice per day
Level 10: Smite Evil three times per day

You can trash the whole temple and still finish. The paladin tends to fall very often in this game which begs the question why is there no anti-paladin option?

Okay, I finally finished Icewind Dale II, and am ready to start ToEE. My favorite character is my paladin, so I'm not going without him, and I have to say I've got enough experience to avoid becoming fallen for the most part. I know how to play a paladin. This minor spoiler got my attention though, I don't agree with how this is done, but I can deal with it.
My question: are there any other surprise downfalls for a paladin that I should know about? Spoil me as little as possible, don't tell me specific quest and circumstances, just a general heads up if you can help. Like I said, I can (and do naturally) avoid all the obvious ones, just tell me if there are any more like this one that don't make sense.

Helm knows all. Know this and be judged!
Basically if you play your Paladin, and entire party, anything less that Mother Tereasa in the quests you can become fallen. But for some reason you appear to be able to kill some of the innocent bystanders without becoming fallen. I suppose that the gods think everyone is guilty of something.
Let me know if the Paladin comes in useful for the fire node boss,(?) you'll know which part when you get there and why he may be useful.

Interesting. I'm looking at it like a challenge. Should be fun.

Yeah, Paladins can make for interesting gameplay. In many ways, they have boundaries that they can't overstep, and virtues that often show some character. I guess that's why I favor them above all else.
