Has anybody played a Solo Assassin?

Hi to you guys! I'm a big fan of the thief class because of their backstab ability, and more so with the Assassin kit because of the additional backstab multiplier that he gets. And I also is not fond of the swashbuckler kit because he losses the thief's main arsenal - backstabbing.

Now, Im kinda curious if any of you, specially those with the Shadow Guild/Mages, have ever soloed with the Assassin kit. Ive read many discussions in this forum on soloing the most popular of course is the Sorcerer.

Im now in the Underdark with a solo Sorc and would like to try out other class/kit for soloing when I finished the game with her.

Id like to know your inputs on this one. I would really appreciate if you could give in details.

Now, Im thinking of an Elf Assassin for his +1 Sword/Bows and thieving bonuses. The stats is not much of an issue because I can use Shadow Keeper (I guess its only fair since Im soloing, anyway).

Go with short swords rather than long swords as your backstab weapon. While elves do get a bonus with long swords, the lower speed factor of short swords increases your chances for a successful backstab. Put a * into staff, too. You can backstab with it, and get two good ones relatively early in the game.

My favorite is the traditional. A halfling assassin with a strength belt and 19 dexterity. I also agree that until you get to a higher level and a better thac0 you should use short swords to raise your backstab chance. I prefer that one with a 0 speed factor. Later (which is fairly soon while soloing), you can get Celestial Fury and kill anything. I always take a * in short sword, long sword, katana, and bow.

Elves get bonuses to all swords, not just long swords. If you solo I suggest halfling cause you'll need the all the thieving skills you can get and you'll need the better saves. Have 18 con for best possible saves.
Or play human for unlimited poison ability.

If you roll up a human assassin that has good enough stats to dual to another class then when you select dual class and then cancel you will get you poison weapon back without resting.
Shadowstrider has soloed an elevn assassin, of that I am pretty sure. He has a guide at his site I think.

This bug ofcourse works with any class that can dual class and has innate abilities. Berserker, kensai, cleric kits, druid kits and thieves. Human bountyhunter may be the one who benefits the most.

Pungyol, I have soloed a female human assassin, and I know there are others out there. This has been brought up before. It was tons of fun and very challenging. It was especially hard doing Bodhi's lair without something to protect me from level drain. I later figured out I could have used the Prot. from Undead scroll and saved myself a lot of running to the nearest temple! Doh!

The two "best" options for assassins have been mentioned, i.e. elves and halflings. Elves have good combat bonuses with swords and bows. Halflings have the best thief skill bonuses.

Choose the one you liked best, the one that would be the coolest to play. There's nothing that says you have to get the most powerful. Soloing means you're doing it the hard way, otherwise you'd get companions to help you out. If you like the halfling assassin, do it! If a dwarven assassin sounds cool, try that! I just happened to find a cool picture of a brooding, assassin-looking female human, so I created my character off that. Whatever works for you...
