ok finally fought my way through that. now when i get through to the upper level theres a locked door? i never picked up a key, but i have completed the whole thing. i mean theres literally Nothing left to kill, the only thing the main beholder gave me on the "unseeing eye missiong" was a magic resistance 5% amulet.
Any ideas?

If you are talking about the secret entrance in the sewers, to the right of the little attack-happy group (not the one to Mekrath's Lair), then you didn't do anything wrong, you can find the key in the windspear hills, idendifiable by the name 'Sewer Key'. With that, you can open that door. Beware though, only go in well armored, it's not an easy path you're taking, but the rewards are nice enough

.
If not, then the only door I can think of that has been locked, was the one to the lower levels, and you indicated that you already were there, so I don't think that's what you mean.
And nope, besides the magic ammy, you don't get anything else from the Unseeing Eye itself, go back to the Temple of Helm where you got the quest for the final rewards.

If you attack the followers to the unseeing eye quest before talking to Gaal and agreeing to do his quest you will loose the chance to get a key that will give you access to the lower levels. When you attack them the Beholder will spawn in and you can kill him but soing it this way severly hampers some other quests you have the opportunity later on. (Kangaxx)
Best way if you want to kill everyone talk to gaal and agree to do his quest, he'll then give you a key. THEN kill everyone

Do not do it at once, first ensure you get the access to both entrances to lower levels (Ghoul Lord area etc.) or you should miss the rod quest and the Gauntlets of Dexterity.
