If I solo BG1 quite a few times to bump up a few of my stats to 25 and then import to BG2?

ask yourself this...

do you think its cheating?

if not, dont worry about it. it's your choice and thats the way it is.

if you think having modifed stats based on the previous game, you wouldnt import a character from the beginning.

no, i wouldn't say so... so long as you aquire the tomes coreectly (not using cheat to spawn them) then you are just re-completeing the game with a stronger char IMO, if it was meant to NOT be allowed the devleopers would have limited the increase

Ask yourself this: Would it be fun and worth the time to increase your stats to 25?

D&D games traditionally have some "character bank" functionality where you can store characters for later use. And traditionally, this character bank is very easy to exploit. You can save a character with nice goodies, start a new game with that character, give the goodies to a second character, save that second character, start a new game with both characters, give the goodies to two other characters... repeat ad nauseum. Allowed? Yes! Cheating? Definitely!

Also think about how the same character can go through the same adventure twice without calling it cheating. :D

No skin off my nose, though. What you do in your own time is your own business. If you have fun that way, then have fun! :)

For those who do not know about BG1 I will explain it. In BG1 you can find certain spots that have tomes/manuals that will increase that certain stat. you can also use the same character over and over to increase stats.

I was a little exaggerating on 25 to all stats. I meant around maybe the 20's. But do you guys consider it cheating if I remove the items each time I restart over but still use the increased stat character? And yes it is the same character but I always use the same name and same class/race everytime anyways. So I do not consider it cheating for me.

As Xyx said, I would consider playing the same story with one character more than once with the single purpose to improve his stats cheating, yes ;)
BTW, most stats have significantly dropping benefits above 18.

Well if you passed the game the first time through then what does it matter if you pass it again at a higher level with higher stats? But yea I consider it cheating.

I expect this would also hold for the effect of the dream sequences.

Personally I don't think it would make sense storywise. It would be a big deja vu for the character, Gorion dying twice, killing all those bosses. Unraveling the same old plots and quests....
then again, every time you reload a game that basically is a deja vu already.

Cheating, yes, but if it sounds like fun to you, go for it ;)

Personally, I consider it to be cheating. It just isn't realistic for a character to advance by re-living the same life over and over. IMO, if you start a new game, your character ought to start from scratch if you don't want to cheat. But if you want to cheat, go right ahead. :)

although i dont see it as cheating (as it was put there by the developers) it is a bit pointless

there are many items/ buffs/ rewards in the game that give you extra stats,

so although i dont c it as cheating, htere anit much piont

Well..

Yes, it's cheating, but part of the problem is that D&D based games are so stat-centric that one is impelled to have these insanely overpowered stats. And, since it's a single player game, the only thing you're doing is making it easier for yourself.

A stat average of 16 is not even "one in a thousand". The odds of having all stats at 18 or higher are astronomical. It's not just the stats that make you the demigod you are, it's what you do with them.

Xyx is right, look at the stats of the "average people" in the streets, they have 9 on all attribute scores ;)
So even 12 strength is way more than any normal person has.

If your intention is merely to bump up the stats before starting BG2, and you don't have any qualms about cheating, why keep replaying BG1? Why not use Shadowkeeper? ;)

I agree with Yshania. If you want to bump up your stats by doing something you can't actually do inside the game, why not just edit your character? But the question is whether replaying the game several times to get bunches and bunches of Tomes is "cheating". I'm surprised there's disagreement on the issue, but I'll humor you if you think it isn't cheating. :)

Regardless, here's an alternative. If you want to use a bunch of Tomes over and over again, why not add some more to the game? For example, you can only find one Manual of Bodily Health in the game, but if you want to use it seven times, just create six new ones. Here's the cheat code:

CLUAConsole:CreateItem("BOOK03",6)

I think that most people are likely to agree that hacking items into the game is cheating. Perhaps you make the distinction that acquiring extra Tomes by playing the game over and over again is "hard work" and therefore it's "honest". (snick) Whatever. :) As far as I'm concerned, you can do whatever you like.

The whole point is to continually develop a character as they progress down a path- not loop around and do it all again. From BG to BG:II to ToB.

Imaging living out our lives, dying, then being born again with everything we knew from our previous life.

It therefore is cheating- just hack it with SK
