Circlet of Saresh - Myth Or Reality?

Could someone help me find this thing? I read a reference to it on another net page but it didn't detail where to find it. The Circlet Of Saresh sounds like just the thing to make my Consular unbeatable, it gives a wisdom bonus of +5. I found Guun Han Saresh's journal on Kashyyyk and about burnt my TV out scouring the forest for this item but I couldn't find it. It has to be available before Bastila turns because I remember the page saying it was a good item for her, and it is light side only. Please help

I found the circlet the same place I found the journal: inside the remains of the tarentatek. The story goes, apparently, that the tarentatek are creatures birthed out of the dark side itself and hunt jedi. Guun Han was died trying to killing this one. He was on a mission with two other companions to hunt down any tarentatek they could find. The beast devoured his journal as well as his head gear. Perhaps it is a glitch that you didn't get it. Or there may be only a probability that the creature has it. When I played the game the first time as a light side character, I didn't get it. The second time around I found it inside the tarentatek, unfourtunately I couldn't use it because I was playing a dark side character. That's what I think you have to do to get it. The description of the circlet said it was given to Guun Han when he was accepted into the order. Apparently, the force is strong in the Saresh family, his family has a histrory of it's members joining the Order. Unfortunately, his family also has a history of falling to the dark side, as Guun Han apparently did just before he was killed by the tarentatek. I think this item only appears if your character has dark side tendancies to try to persuade you to go to the light. I just gave the thing to Bastila instead.

Oh I didn't make myself clear on my last reply. The circlet was given to Guun Han by his father to try to encourage him to stay on the light side. It is made so that only light side characters can use it. This was to prevent Guun Han from doing what so many members of his family did. This is why I think you can only get this item if you have dark side tendencies. Sort of as if "destiny" brought it to you to incourage you to come back to the light. And to piss the crap out of you if you really wanted to be a dark side character just to see what happens in the story.

It's available to everyone...always shows...if it didn't in your game then it was bugged.

For anyone interested in that little story, there is a Twilek at the Jedi enclave on Dantooine that will tell you all the details if you are willing to listen to him :)

XBOX and PC Different

Maverick, since you mentioned "burning out your TV," I'm going to assume that you're playing the XBOX version. The Circlet of Saresh is a PC-only item. It may soon be added through an XBOX Live download, but the circlet appears "purely" (i.e., in the game disc) only in the PC version.

Pellaeon brings up a good point, which I've mentioned before: identifying the version of KotoR you are playing, before asking a question. There are distinct differences, and not simply in the interface. I'd make a sticky thread on this, but nobody seems to read sticky threads, anyway. ;)

Thank you all for your help. I never did find it so I must assume that since I am playing the Xbox version that it is a PC item only. I tried starting Dark and then switching, made the game more challenging but it didn't show. Thanx for the tip, too, Fable. I'm fairly new here so I didn't know but will make it a point in the future.

IMHO this item is fabulous, especially since you can get it free very early on in the game. A little overpowered -- I was very pleasantly surprised.

Does anyone know why it is PC-only? Are there any negative trade-offs, i.e. something sweet in the X-Box version that didn't make it to the PC?

Bioware Gives Bonuses to Loyal PCists

Since Bioware has its roots in the PC gaming industry, and since the game came out first on XBOX, the Circlet of Saresh and Yavin Station are bennies for Bioware's loyal PC fans. It's a sop to the PCists because we had to suffer seeing our XBOX brethren get the game months before the PC release.

Besides, Bioware is well known for giving special benefits through special arrangements (e.g., Pre-Order and Collector's Edition CDs for Baldur's Gate II). Don't worry about not getting it in the XBOX version. It may become available through XBOX Live. Don't quote me on that, but I thought I heard a rumor to that effect. And the BGII items soon became available to non-pre-orders.

And no, Bioware doesn't do "trades" like that. They're rewarding the PC fans for being patient. You won't find things missing from the PC version -- not counting problems, of course.

Yeah, it sounds like the trade-off for the bonus stuff is instability, crashes & headaches :( (at least until a definitive patch is released).

It's crashed a total of 3 times on me so far, but I can live with that. I wish there were a quick-save function like in BGII....

The patch version 1.01 seems to have helped my game alot. I used to have really, realy bad framerate, even on low detail. And it would act all weird and my character would wind up in china before I new it. Now I have no framerate problems at all, even at the highest possible setting. The only problems I have now are that the game crashes sometimes when I slice computers, and that I can't load from the main menu, which is really annoying. I have to start a whole new game, and then load after the new game starts, in order to start where I left off. And this game does have a quick save feature. Press F4 to save and F5 to quick load.

stupid light-only items
I played through first as a light soldier/guardian so i didn't need it

Now i'm a dark scoundrel/consular and when i need it, i can't use it. O well, at least i get to use all those dark items i wanted to use as a light character =]

Didn't need it? +5 Wisdom isn't anything to sneer at, even for the more aggressively-minded Guardians. The ability to literally stop your enemies in their tracks with Stasis Field is a powerful tool for the Guardian (what better way to win than to not get hit?), and +5 WIS translates to, at minimum, a +2 boost to the difficulty check for resistance. Compared to the next best stat-boosting head item, the Combat Sensor (name correct?), which gives you a +2 DEX (+1 armor, +1 attack), I'd argue that the Jedi benefits far more from the Circlets' Wisdom bonus...

Besides, the Guardian is already getting +3 STR for Light Side Mastery, so you can purchase the Advanced Stabilizer Gauntlets from the Yavin Rodian for a +3 DEX bonus and +5 Blaster Bolt Deflection, and thus you get someone who's not only hard to hit (even if you can get the shot past the lightsaber, you still have to hit the lithe Jedi) but can literally freeze you in your tracks.

Then I'd say that sounds like a good plan. I just assumed you disregarded it completely. My bad.

Heh, i know any +5 item is not to be disregarded =]
