My 10th level party just met the Fire Boss. I got a total of 38 points of damage on him before my entire party was killed .
My Mage was charmed.
My Spelled up Paladin was charmed.
I sent in everyone else with Holy weapons, but they couldnt even hit him.
My only damage was done by my mage and rogue in the surprise round.
Any Hints on The Fire Boss ?

Bish - Yes I have the skull and other 3 gems, but I was trying not to use it. AFAIK you can only summon them once per month, and as the final fight is next, didnt want to have to wait. I will give it a try if I get battered a few more times.
Tobias - I did a search, but the only other reference to Fire Boss is you hinting that a Paladin would be especially usefull.

Hmmm... I didn't summen them myself..
But my cousin for that matter... he summoned them. Not only can you summon them again as soon as they're killed, but they don't leave if not slain. They follow you around perpetually, even into town.
People stop talking to you
"Uh... what's that thing behind you? Not going to cause any trouble is it?"
That and... *spoiler alert* Zuggy is a walkover after beating Mr Balor. You'll need them more for him than for Zuggy.

The text Duke!!! Don't say the text!!
Spoiler
I seem to recall that I said I wanted to know if a paladins aura of courage would stop him being afraid.
Trick with fire boss.

Your hidden thief can pickpocket the last gem off him and walk through the gate taking your whole party through.
If you want to kill him. Initiate combat with a magic missile and lure the effrits away and carve them up out side the range of the balor. Send in one expendable buffed character and wait ten rounds while the fear wears off. Go in and chop him up. Spells are almost useless except magic missile and melf acid arrow. You may also have to cure/chop up your charmed characters and resurrect them.
Hope this helps

A funny thing happened to me against that balor
We took out his effreties and quasits and then did a runner and rested up.
We returned. My paladin, armed with Scather, was given bless, aid, protection from evil, protection from elements (fire), boots of speed, improved invisibility, potion of extra heroism - he stood right up next to the balor
The cleric cast three spiritual weapon spell and Zaxis used the Orb of Golden Death to bring in all but the frog demon (keeps poisoning your players you see).
Balor was not amused and took on the spiritual weapons (which was dim) - anyway this involved him trying to move to case a spell. As he did so paladin got an attack of opportunity - balor tried his second attack against the floating hammer - paladin got an attack of opportunity and again and again and again - balor dead!
Don't know if this is a bug or the magic but the paladin is one hell of a hero at the Order HQ right now - an Zaxis has written a song about the event that is currently rocking the charts in Greyhawk

Balor fight
Well...
My half-orc barbarian received the following Power-Up suit:
Magic Circle vs. Evil
Magic Circle vs. Chaos
Bear's Endurance
Bull's Strenght
Owl's Wisdom
Haste (Boots of Speed)
Potion of Protection against Outsiders (i was sparing this for the Fungi *****, but this Balor IS VERY TOUGH!)
He was wearing Gloves of Giant Strenght +6 and an amulet of Wisdom +6 (both crafted by my cleric with the craft wondrous item feat) and had Scather (definetly the best weapon on the game)
Endure Elements (Cold)
IMPORTANT: none of these spells were cast by my wizard. See below why...
I sent him alone to face the Balor and the 2 efreeti. I kept the rest of the party at a distance to avoid the fear effect.
When i had him at melee distance from the Balor I had "Otiluke's Resilient Sphere" cast on him by my wizard.
The monsters kept beating him for no effect. Them I set loose some Cone of Colds stored in scrolls to get rid of the efreeti and when they´re gone I dismissed Otiluke's Sphere
and got my barbarian to work on the Balor along with summoned creatures (Earth elemental being my favorite)
It worked for me, but you can also beat him easily summmoning other demons from the gems (if you already have them...as for me...it was the first nod I devided to enter.. )
Let me know if it works for you
Good Luck

"A little different form yesterday, definetly not the same of tomorrow"
I finally did it, and very easily. The key elements were:
Protection from Evil, kept those nasty charms and fear at bay.
Stinking Cloud, seemed to put him right off.
The Skull summoned creatures, not for the damage they did (or didnt do), but because they caused the fire boss to turn around, so my Paly could critical the him up the rear.
The final fight was a total doddle by comparison. It might have been helped by my Cleric with Plant domain (pure luck, I picked it before going to any forums/walkthrus). I bet Zuggy was a bit narked to summom all that fungus, only to have my priestess command the lot of it!
Thanks for everyones input, its been a blast. Now off to load KOTOR, or LOTR.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
