mage dualed to fighter

This is actually not a bad option. You have to either play bg1 or use SK to be able to dual at level 2 which is the optimum level for this dual class.
Benefits are:
You get to use the amulet of power
You get to use staff of the magi
You can use wands
You can use scrolls( while wearing armor, and cannot be interrupted)
Disadvantage:
Less hp the an ordinary fighter, not much though.
I am not sure how it works but when you cast a spell like mirror image it seems that it is your fighter level that matters and not your mage level. This seem to be the case with many scrolls but I am not sure if this is the case.
Can anyone confirm this?
Anyway it is a cool character to play.

Yes. It is the level of the "caster".
Same with paladins/rangers. A level 9 paladin is not a level 1 caster (you don't count from where the spells are earned) - he's a level 9 caster.
Very handy. Plus you only lose HP for 2 mage levels and 2 fighter levels. Not bad.

But paladins do not get skeleton warriors at level 15. More like level 24. I am not sure how mage spells work but it seems very good.
Those hps you lose are sure worth being able to use scrolls and wands.

A mage dualed to fighter is no different then a fighter dualed to mage in that respect.

What advantage does it have compared to a dual fighter/mage?

Well you'll get a better fighter.
I don't think you should compare it to a fighter dualed to mage. Rather as a fighter with some mage skills. Compare it to a fighter. A fighter dualed to mage should be compared to a mage

i thought i put something there
anyway, i want say that mage dual to fighter only can access a low mage's spells. and there is no point to do that. i rather do dualling fighter to mage.

As a level to mage you can only memorize level one spells. Thats okay though because the only spell you'll cast is find familiar. The rest you'll cast from scrolls. You'll be wearing full plate all the time anyway. The good thing is that you can still cast from scrolls and never be interupted.

As a level two mage you can only memorize level one spells. Thats okay though because the only spell you'll cast is find familiar. The rest you'll cast from scrolls. You'll be wearing full plate all the time anyway. The good thing is that you can still cast from scrolls and never be interupted.

Why not dual the mage to fighter at lvl 9 instead? Then you can memorize up to lvl 5 spells (only one lvl 5 though).

The idea is to be able to wear full plate and be a fighter with mage skills. With the hp's from a familiar you are better or equal to a fighter in everything but can use wands and scrolls. If you dual at level 9 then you will have less hp's and can't wear armor if you want to cast spells.

But the dual fighter/mage is a better fighter. It can also use full-plate with scrolls. Or use Bracers of Defense AC3 or cast Spirit Armour. And if you want to do a real tough fight cast Improved Haste, Tenser's and then put on the the full-plate. And one more thing: turn on the Berserker Rage

Okay I am not saying this is a better character then a fighter dualed to mage. A fighter dualed to mage however is more likely to be played as a mage with melee skills.
This character is a fighter with the ability to cast a spell now and then. This means no memorizing and less resting. Different kind of character plain and simple.

Good point Bruce Lee. If it would be possible to dual a mage to kensai it would be great. In fact a warrior is not able to cast spells while wearing armour, so you have advantages (casting some spells) with some headaches......remove your armor every time you want to cast a spell. The HP are non influent if you dual at lvl 2....IMO

You can dual to kensai if you are willing to use SK to do it.
However at level two you can only cast two level one spells so there isn't a great benefit. The best thing with this character is Vhailor's helm. This helmet means that you can use your powerful spells one time per day.
