Powerful weapons in SoA Chapter 2. [minor spoilers]

I've just finished Chapter 2 and I've got

1) Keldorn wielding Carsomyr - this guy is an absolute beast! I don't get
how anyone could stick with minsc and Lilarcor when they could have this guy
this early in the game.
2) Anomen with big shield and Flail of Ages. He's got 1 proficiency
in flails that I will try to improve asap, but he's still a beast.
3) Jaheira with Belm Scimitar and a hefty shield,
4) ME (Archer) with Heartseeker bow, 5 proficiency point in longbow,
hits nearly every time for nice damage.
5) Aerie has staff of thunder and lightnig, but used more as spellcaster with sling
(the one that gives strength bonus) and girdle of some ogre strength.
Plenty of damage, hits good and often.

I've just recently got Celestial Fury, and I've given it to Yoshimo.

I'm just wondering about Crom Faeyr (sp), I've got nearly all the bits but
when (what chapter) does it finally become attainable? Who should I give it to?

I'm also wondering about Jaheira and Anomen. Anomen had a crappy AC before I had
him with a big shield, so I'm happy with him,
but Jaheira, should I have her dual wield Belm with Blackblood? or is it better
to have the better AC (shield) and extra attack from Belm?

any thoughts?

also I defeated the Lich in the unseeing eye sewers, no probs to Keldorn with Carsomyr and prot from magic scroll.
but what do I do with the golden legs and arms and stuff?

Well your asking for some big spoilers..
you sure you want them?

well the less spoilers the better I suppose :)
my Qs boil down to,

is yoshimo the best to use Celestial fury?
Jaheira, dual wield Belm scimitar and blackblood, or is the bonus AC of a shield plus Belm a better way to go?

Crom Faeyr - How soon before I can trundle off to cromwell to get it made (I'm just started Chapter 3), is it miles away?
And of my current party who might be best to use it?

the Lich golden body parts - is there a quest to go along with these?
the Lich in the Crooked Crane just mugged me, I think I got 1 hit on him, so I'll probably go back later.
just wondering if there's a storyline/quest I should start before having a go at the Lichs I've found
Unseeing eye sewer - beat him
Crooked Crane - got trounced once by him
Bridge district - I think I had a look inside early on, but ran away :p

I think it is worth beating the lich in Crooked Crane before you embark on Chap 3. That's because you'll get a nice weapon useful against enemies you'll meet.

The lich is not connected with other liches, though. There are total of three related to the golden body parts liches in Athkatla. Another one is in the Dock district, and he will explain (sort of) what you need to do. Ask more spoilers, if you need.

Weapons

Celestial Fury: My very personal idea is to give yourself a proficiency in Katana. I know you are an Archer, but you'll need to melee time to time during the game. Celestial Fury's special ability to stun the opponent could be particularly useful if you only have a single point in melee weapon, and Katana generally has better speed factor compare with other melee weapons.

Jaheira: It really depends how often you like to use her as melee fighter. If you play her primarily a summoner and take her into melee only when it's necessary, I'd give her a shield and a weapon (one melee and a sling), especially summoning usually takes long to cast (Insect plague, Fire Elemental). If you tend to send her melee alongside with Keldorn (I told you he's great! :D ) and Anomen, give her dual yielding. I actually like clubs, as there are good enough choice during the game.

Crom Faeyr: It's going to be long way still, I'm afraid. I think Anomen is the best person to use it in your current game.

I'll just ask where the 3 liches are that are connected to this quest,
1 is unseeing eye
1 is in docks (whereabouts?)
1 is in bridge district, southwest of map (ish)

and the crooked crane lich is not connected? just has a nice weapon

I've also got 5 rogue stones, do these have any functions apart from letting you get to the lichs? (i think i read that somewhere)

I'm using Jaheira as 3rd tank after Keldorn and Anomen, and the summon insects/fire elemental are v handy, I'll stick with the scimitar and shield for now I think, (for both her and Anomen),
the lower damage they dish out is balanced by what I'm saving in health potions and spells

thanks for your help!

I did feel really sorry leaving Minsc when I got Keldorn, but there's no comparison (right now anyway)

I usually give jaheira a spear or staff (there are some good spears later in the game) somehow she can handle them pretty well.

CelestialFury is grea for Yoshimo, let him keep it.

You know you have 3 cleric types in your team, maybe you should drop one, and take another tank/mage.
But once you rescue imoen, you can take here and drop another character

The Rogue Stones entitle you to fun and frolics at the Twisted Rune (No. 5 in the Bridge District map). I think you only need one to get in, but I seem to recall that they have other uses, so maybe do a search before flogging 'em.

How can anyone drop Minsc for Keldorn? "I heartily approve of the path we have taken" Sanctimonious prat! And he ran out on his wife. Toe rag!

First of all, there's no such thing as a "perfect party" or a "perfect set of weapons". Even though it's important to give some thought to party composition and equipment choices and so forth, you shouldn't let dwelling on them spoil your fun. You'll do just fine with whatever you've got. :)

Since you have you investigated the cult of the Unseeing Eye, you should have found the Gauntlets of Dexterity. You could give them to either Anomen or Keldorn. It's a tough choice, since they both have mediocre Dexterity. Since Keldorn wields a two-handed weapon and doesn't carry a shield, it's probably best to give the Gauntlets to him. But at high levels, I like to let Anomen dual-wield the Flail of Ages and Crom Faeyr, so it would be nice to raise his Dexterity as well. Anomen has some nice defensive/buffing spells, and he makes a great frontline character.

To answer your question about Crom Faeyr, you'll find one of the parts to it in Chapter Five, so you won't be able to assemble it before then.

To answer your question about Celestial Fury, I'd give it to a character who would use it as a primary weapon. In this case, it makes a good backstabbing weapon for Yoshimo. I also like to equip him with Aegar's Hide (armor) as well; you can buy it at the Adventurer's Mart. Or, as Minerva suggested, you could give Celestial Fury to your Archer. It's a good idea to give him a nice melee weapon for those times when he needs one. Since you can put proficiency points into lots of different weapon types, you'll have lots to choose from.

To answer your question about Jaheira, all sorts of weapons are appropriate for her. In my various games, I've given her every kind of weapon except clubs, and she was effective with all of them (and I'm sure that she would also be effective with clubs). You could even let her wield a sling or a dagger if you wanted to. (There's a nice +3 throwing dagger in Chapter Five, although you might prefer to give it to a Mage.) Belm makes a good off-hand weapon, but since it's only a +2 weapon, you'll eventually want to give her something better for her primary weapon. You can find a +3 Scimitar in Chapter Five, but you might consider other wepaon types besides scmitars. For example, you can find a really nice spear in Chapter Four, and there are several nice Quarterstaffs throughout the game. If you let her wield a staff or a spear, make sure you put proficiency points in Two-Handed Weapon Style. If you want to let her dual-wield, I think you should wait for her THAC0 to improve before you do that, but when you do, you should definitely put proficiency points in Two Weapon Style. To make her more effective in melee, I like to give her a girdle of giant strength. (It's nice to let Aerie wear the Girdle of Hill Giant Strength, but I think it would be better to give it to one of your frontline fighters.) When Jaheira is able to cast the 5th Level spell Ironskins, let her use it. Some people favor her offensive spells, which are quite potent, but her defensive spells are pretty nice, too.

To answer your question about why some people have Minsc in their party instead of Keldorn, the answer is that power isn't always everything. Minsc is very entertaining, and a lot of us are just plain fond of him. :) It has long been proven that you can beat the game with ANY combination of characters, so to people like me, power isn't the most important issue. (Although I'm the first to say that I enjoy the tricks I've learned along the way.) :)

As I wrote in a message to you last week, I like to see a party that has three Clerics (Anomen, Jaheira, and Aerie), but personally, I think you're short on Mages, so I hope that you have considered adding Imoen to your party when you rescue her. I don't think it's a spoiler to mention that your primary goal right now is to rescue Imoen, and she's a Mage. :)

You indicated earlier that you had done "most" of the quests in Chapter Two already. I suspect that there might be a couple that you aren't aware of. When I first played the game, I didn't find them all; when I played my second game, I made a point to find everything I missed the first time around.

There are all sorts of quests you can do in Chapter Two, and a lot of people enjoy doing ALL of them before they try to rescue Imoen. But if you think there might be a quest or two that you haven't done already, such as the Planar Sphere or the Astral Prison, I think you should consider saving them for later if you intend to make Imoen a permanent party member when you rescue her. From a powergaming perspective, you should give her a chance to gain experience. Besides, if you want her in your party, why would you do all of the side-quests without her?

When you find the creature who wants the Golden body parts, it should be fairly easy to understand what's going on. If you don't want spoilers, all I can tell you is that you'll have to go looking for the rest of the body parts. (Hint: there's a Golden Skull and a Golden Torso.) Have fun. :)

1) for your archer I would suggest to take short bow and go for Tuigan/Gesen(Tansheron early on); short bows for an archer are a far better option; as a melee weapon I would suggest a Two handed (sword, halaberd, spear, staff), some of them are amazingly powerful.

2) Anomen, if you did the Unseeing Eye quest you should have put your hands on an item that raise dex to 18, unfortunatly having both Keldorn and Anomen with low dex best option is to leave the item to Keldorn (main tank) and to give a shield to Anomen; he is also the most suitable to have Crom, but it will be a long way before you get it !!!

3) Jaheira is good at everything: spellcaster and backup fighter? consider a staff and sling (some great staff for druid only available); a Tank? give her a good plate armor and a shield and you get her Ac to very high lev., for weapon switch between blackblood/gnasher (against mages) and belm (against melee enemies); front line fighter? dual wield blackblood/gnasher and belm.

4) Aerie is not the best person to use a strenght enhancing item ; give the belt/gauntlets to a fighter (Jaheira is also better fitted to use the sling that add str. bonus to dbg) and buy her sling of Everard (+5 ench., no ammo required) and Mauler arm (mace that sets str. to 18) plus a shield (of Harmony or Missile reflec. are good option) for when she gets sacked.

5)Celestial fury is a great weapon, a good option is give to you a * because
SPOILER

Yoshimo wan't use it for long and for Imoen go for Staff (of Magi of course) and short bow.

To answer your question abut gems, it's a good idea to hang on to the most expensive ones in case you find a use for them. For example, I'd hang on to rogue stones, diamonds, star sapphires, emeralds, king's tears, and beljuril's. There are also a couple of special "gems", but technically, the game doesn't treat them as gems--for example, you can't put them in a gem bag, even though they're called "gems".

This brings up another point. You're going to come across a lot of items that are important. But once they have served their purpose, there's no need to keep them unless you just want to keep them as souvenirs or trophies. If you find an object that looks important but you can't figure out how to use (like the Golden Arms and Legs), hang on to it. If you don't have room for it in your inventory, find a safe place to store it. There are lots of containers in the game--chests, barrels, tables, shelves, etc. Pick one that's easy to get to (and easy to remember), and make sure it isn't guarded (sometimes you'll be attacked if you open a container because the people nearby think you're stealing). Eventually, you might build up quite a collection. :)

Dual-wielding isn't everything and a good AC shield isn't either. I personally consider the Shield of Harmony to be the best off-hand item in the game for most characters. In your case, Aerie is probably the best choice since she's not really built for dishing out damage anyway (weak, only one attack and unable to learn dual-wielding well).

Hmm...

Most of my comments would be redundant to VonDondu's but I have a couple.

Crom Faeyr will be a while, IIRC - you need an item from signficantly later in the game. The obvious person to use it is Anomen, since he's your blunt guy (in more senses than one ;) )

Carsomyr is a very nice weapon, but it isn't the be-all end-all. its's just a really nice weapon you can get quite early on, as Liarcor is a fairly nice weapon that you can get super early. I'd already beaten ToB before I ever had a party that could actually use Carsomyr, but Liarcor gets you through some nasty early fights while you're still wimpy.

Consider giving Aerie the 18 STR mace from the Copper Coronet, and using the +STR item on someone more melee-ish.

Celestial Fury is a good choice for Yoshimo, possibly your main. Valygar is REALLY the guy to use it - ouch! - but he's not in your party.

Have fun!

one thing i can add to this discussion is darts for jaheira. yes, ++ in darts. this gives an extra 1/2 attack, thus giving the highest rate of fire at best speed factor, matched only by the Tuigan Bow. and there are two kinds of wonderfull darts throughout the game (of wounding, whisc are best used vs spellcasters, and of holding, which are usable against anybody).

the efficiency of darts is multyplied in ToB with the use of Deathblow+improved haste, delievering instant death to 8 monsters per round
