I have the scroll but when I return to the golem & repeat the words according to the walkthrough he is supposed to give me a key to the door but nothing happens. Is there a patch that can fix this for me.

You could just try talking to it again that might also work. If the golem is gone then search the floor for the key as if your inventory is full you may have dropped it.
or
Reload your quicksave and try it again. No quicksave then auto save, annoying I know.
